#2zombiegleemaxJan 21, 2006 13:51:32 | - Strenght: a stronger the character would have more mass than a weak one (take Caramon and Raitlin for example). U have to consider the race too, an elf would never have as much mscle as a human, and whimpy half ogre would still be big boned compared to a human. - Dexterity: though a nimble character is expected to thin, this might not be completly true (take sumo fighter, they have good reflexes), but for game purpose that could work. - Constitution: a character with a low score would not look healthy, he would be pale and sickly, and probably very thin. - Intelligence and Wisdom: these two ccan be tricky. I woun't use stereotypes on looks when it comes to int and wis. They affect the personality but not the appereance. - Charisma: again... since this is not a physical atribute IMO it has little to do with the looks directly. |

The others though, I would differ in opinion. If you wanted to use the stats to "flesh out" a character perhaps a high Int would make them look sort of "nerdy." This is subject to the player's taste, and wouldn't apply if the person was also tough (high Str and/or Con.) A high Wis could make them look sort of innocent, if they were a Mishakal-worshipping "nice guy." As for Cha, that would be the stat that would make the biggest difference in "looks." If you have a high Cha, chances are, the character is good-looking. It only makes sense, since it's not really persuasion for a big ugly brute to "request" some help, more like intimidation. I can't recall off the top of my head, but doesn't the PHB explicitly state that Cha affects the physical appearance of a character? All in all, I would say as far as physical appearances go, as long as the player has at least a 10 in Cha, the character can look any way they want. If they are fleshed out to be especially handsome/pretty, you could balance that with a somewhat abrasive attitude, or they could have a great personality, but not be too much to look at. If you have a high Cha, then I would think they would be very attractive, and be very personable. |
#4zombiegleemaxJan 21, 2006 19:35:32 | The problem with mental stats is the risk of playi stereotypes. - Int: yes, the nerdy look is most obviuos, but u should look other stats before considering this look. A smart individual could be a good looking boy/girl yet a cunning one, or a huge guy that happens ton be brilliant too. This migh sound silly but mental stats are suppose to be roled!!! ...or at least, one should try. - Wis: i'd relate high wis with serenity and calm in difficult moments... think of the wise janitor and the the dalai lama, both have high wisdom and entirelt dif looks!! - Cha: the mos common mistake is to associate cha and looks, is not about how u is about how strong your personalty, it might influence of course but charisma is not the same as beauty!!! Picture a pretty girl with no personality at all, completely dull, or way too shy, despite her beauty she still has a cha score of 10 or lower See my point? |

#7AzeurJan 24, 2006 15:30:49 | Thanks guys ;) The mental ones are those who had been really annoying me, because I have no clear clue of how they affect a person's look... (even thought I should) Thanks for pointing all this out |
