#1OgrebearJan 19, 2006 9:01:10 | So what happened to Commandant Osson of Almor? Has anyone used him and his fate in a game- what did *you* decide this man fate was? I am half tempted to have him having died and rezzzed as an Orc and its him organizing the Orcs of the Bone March into a more cohesive force..... |
#2zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2006 11:03:42 | Nope. Never answered that and it never should be answered. The mystery and the mystique of Osson rely on his fate never being known. He's gone and that's it. Let sleeping heroes lie, I say. P. |
#3MortepierreJan 19, 2006 13:17:00 | Wasn't there an Ahlissa (or was it Naerie?) LG adventure dealing with his lance? Maybe some juicy new info was in it but as I never got a chance to play it, I have no idea |
#4simpiJan 19, 2006 13:54:04 | Wasn't there an Ahlissa (or was it Naerie?) LG adventure dealing with his lance? Maybe some juicy new info was in it but as I never got a chance to play it, I have no idea It was Splintered Sun (Europe) meta-regional TSS3-07 Lance of Osson. Basicly, the orcs of Montesser (did I got that right) in Medegia had the lance. Three factions wanted it. Almorians, because it belonged to them by right. Idee Volunteers of Naerie, because it would be a symbol for them to rally a cause. Ahlissans wanted it because last thing they need is some relic of the past causing unrest in kingdom and tearing it apart. I talked to authors some time ago and it seems Almorians won with a slight edge over Ahlissans according to campaign consequences which, interestingly enough, came mostly from Naerie and Dullstrand! I wonder if TSS5-03 The Medegian Job might somehow return to this plotline. S.H, the guy from Naerie. P.S: TSS3-07 was a truly excellent module. Thanks to authors if they read this. |
#5AmarilJan 19, 2006 14:36:13 | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=lg/lgmp/20040217aChathold still holds many items of interest that would attract many a freesword. Somewhere within Chathold lies the Banner of Almor – said to ensure any true defender of Almor will be undefeated in battle. Dropped by Osson at the Battle of the Great Confluence, it was returned by a lieutenant to the despairing Prelate Kevont on the eve of Chathold’s destruction. Kevont’s severed and defiled head is also lost within the ruins and Almorian patriots seek it to bring rest to his tortured shade, which wanders the city, wailing in despair. |
#6OgrebearJan 19, 2006 19:00:06 | It was Splintered Sun (Europe) meta-regional TSS3-07 Lance of Osson. Is it posible to get hold of the old LG modules once their year has past? I am not part of the LG campaign but I would really like to read this adventure! Can anyone help? |
#7zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2006 5:44:17 | There's also rumours emerging from Sunndi that Osson might have fathered a child during his brief sojourn there. This is fleshed out a wee bit more in several Sunndi modules... Simpi - without giving anything away - there's no linik between Osson and the Medegian Job. P. Ex-Splintered Sun Overking. |
#8MortepierreJan 20, 2006 5:50:44 | Is it posible to get hold of the old LG modules once their year has past? Simply put: no. A debate about this has been going for some time now (and there is even a petition created by a french player, if I am not mistaken). Long story short, WotC/LG doesn't retain the copyright to the various adventures once they're retired. So, basically, you would have to secure the agreement of all the authors out there. Not impossible but difficult to manage. Since there wouldn't be any profit in it, WotC doesn't bother. |
#9zombiegleemaxJan 20, 2006 6:00:19 | And the impression I get from the LG people is that it's a thorn patch that they don't want to get into. They've got enough on their plates keeping the campaign going forward without running down authors of released modules and getting permissions etc etc etc. Seriously though, guys - the current mods are available for download free off the RPGA and Wizards sites. You need to be an RPGA member (which is also free). If you want them, they can be got and for no fiscal cost to you. Ok - that's not going to help you with the back mods, but it does solve the problem going forward. P. Ex-LG person |

Yeah, but you can only obtain scenarios from your region, and you have to go through a song and dance before and after running each module. Running adventures only in the Principality of Ulek would become frustrating if I want to run an adventure in Almor. |
#11pauln6Jan 20, 2006 6:48:12 | Yeah - it's a major weakness in the way LG operates. I wouldn't mind so much if there was an easy way of finding out what the 'official' outcomes of the mods were so that I can add LG into my own campaign history. Although it is also a shame that a lot of locations and npcs are being featured and detailed in the mods and then being lost. It's a real missed opportunity to develop the campaign world. |
#12simpiJan 20, 2006 10:14:08 | Is it posible to get hold of the old LG modules once their year has past? I can give you a brief synopsis of this module if somebody confirms that this is not any kind of breach of copyright. S.H, the guy from Naerie |
#13GreysonJan 20, 2006 10:38:37 | A SPOILER follows regarding NYR5-04 The Mad Duke In NYR5-04 The Mad Duke, characters can (and must to be successful) recover Osson's Banner, the same guide-on used by General Osson during his raid. The adventure does not indicate where it came from or how it got to the tavern in which is found. But it is there, ready to be plucked and waved in an effort to rally the people of Mithat to throw off the Scarlet Brotherhood's control of the city. And, there is no mention of Osson himself. I thought it was a very cool and nostalgic reference. Here is the adventure abstract: "In the city of Mithat the forces of Sewarndt have effectively taken control. Scarlet robes and Hextorian cloaks patrol the streets. Trade is strangled, as ships are often searched or seized and most refuse to run the harbor blockade. Citizens are questioned and many disappear never to be seen again. And through it all the Mad Duke Younard still suffers from his mental collapse of the night Rel Mord fell. A mere shell of his former self, the new government uses his mad ravings and periodic fits to issue whatever proclamations they desire. Now, as the resistance grows in strength, you have been sent to Mithat to see if the city can be saved. An intelligence-gathering mission for those loyal to Nyrond. For characters of 1st to 14th level (APLs 2-12). " |
#14MortepierreJan 20, 2006 12:15:05 | Uh?!? Sewarndt is working hand in hand with the SB? Man, Nyrond sure is going down the drain these days. As a side note, this is yet another perfect example of why having a regular update on what happened in all regions is becoming increasingly necessary. My own region is close-by and we're barely aware Lynwerd lost his throne as it is! Teleporting giants in Geoff, vampires in Chendl, lich army in Veluna, bullywug army in Sunndi.. I swear, compared to this the Greyhawk Wars will soon look like a picnic! |
#15pauln6Jan 20, 2006 12:33:40 | Uh?!? Lol - totally. There was another thread discussing the death of Countess Bellissica and how it never even made the news in neighbouring friendly nations. Couldn't the triads employ an international herald to report this sort of stuff stuff? Hell, I'd be willing to chip in to a slush fund to pay somebody to do it! |
#16GreysonJan 20, 2006 12:35:09 | Sewarndt is working hand in hand with the SB? Man, Nyrond sure is going down the drain these days. It was a brief occupation by Sewarndt and his evil forces. The Black Prince claimed the throne for about nine months, before he was slain by Lynwerd in Rel Mord and his forces were smashed in a massive, multi-state Interactive in September 2005. Lynwerd is back on the Nyrond throne. Now the region is dealing with post-Sewarndt clean up. While I was one of the most strident opponents of the Year Five Sewarndt story arc, it worked out well and the region enjoyed five fantastic adventures and three awesome Interactives. But I digress. This thread is about General Osson. But, it makes me wonder if I should spend some time developing and posting a Nyrond archive detailing the kingdom's events in the Living Greyhawk campaign. |
#17MortepierreJan 20, 2006 13:50:33 | Methink it's the online gazetteer on the LG Nyrond website that needs updating. Currently, it still lists:Ruler: His August Supremacy, Altmeister of All the Aerdi, Emperor Sewarndt of Nyrond Heck, the frontpage news is about "Emperor Sewarndt Reopens Assembly". Clearly his propaganda machine isn't dead yet :P |
#18simpiJan 20, 2006 14:23:53 | Couldn't the triads employ an international herald to report this sort of stuff stuff? Hell, I'd be willing to chip in to a slush fund to pay somebody to do it! Well, we have a US player who occasionally sends us 'Letters from the North' detailing events in Nyrond, Urnst & Dyvers as 'ambassador from Naerie' but of course this only benefits our region and those who happen upon it. Some sort of coordination would be nice but again, who will do it. S.H, the guy from Naerie |
#19pauln6Jan 20, 2006 14:28:09 | But, it makes me wonder if I should spend some time developing and posting a Nyrond archive detailing the kingdom's events in the Living Greyhawk campaign. YAY!!! Every region needs to do this. Start the ball rolling and I'll have your babies. Ok, eww no, that aint gonna work. My character will have your character's babies - no orcs or dwarves though. |
#20OgrebearJan 22, 2006 8:51:00 | None of the GH stuff I have explains much about Osson the man- does anyone have any info on the person he was, is it published anywhere? I understand he was very chaismatic and an excellant leader and fighter, but what else was there about him? Any family etc? Thanks and its a damm shame I cant get that module. Simpi please post away! |
#21zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2006 9:36:46 | AFAIK, Osson is never detailed much beyond passing references to his character in places like the Offical History of the Greyhawk Wars, From the Ashes and Ivid the Undying. In terms of family, it's mentioned that he was a cousin of the Nyrondese General Osmeran of Cordrend. And I think that's about it. You can infer quite a bit from that, but there's no statblock or character write up for him. P. |
