does the pristine tower still have a function?

Seriously, does the pristine tower just sit there and do as it's told and be a nice tall tower that houses shadow giants? or does it do something even now? can it be used for more than it is? (Asside from Sadira's transformation) is it possible the tower could have it's own intelligence? if not, could it still be up to something?

Could the tower be regulating the sun? could it be generating the mutational field surrounding the tower? if so, why? could it be doing something that no one knows?? sure Rajaat took over the tower and altered it to suit his purposes, but who is to say he had complete control? Was he a halfling of the blue age? no.. it's possible the ancient tower could even be a beacon of sorts for the Messenger commet that's returning.. (and rajaat's alterations causes it to land off course) what would happen, do you think, if one of those halfling life shapers got to the tower that they could use it? if so, for what? would they cleans it of Rajaat's influence? Would the shadow giants serve a true halfling of the blue age over Rajaat?? (I think they would)

Ideas??

To some extent the rebirth is still happening. I wonder if ot could be used to restore the races wiped out in the cleansing wars?

There was thread awhile back that included musings about using the tower to return the sun to its original blue state. There was some good stuff to come from that thread.

I wish I could remeber which one it was. I'll dig for it later and post a link to it here.

one thought in there was of the tower replenishing the sun to its blue hue.. some thought that couldn't be possible, that the tower only syphons energy.. I think it can replenish it, and cause it to grow.. (two reasons, the son is considered a source of "life" energy.. which the halflings and nature masters could manipulate and cause to 'grow'.. and two, this is dark sun, there are 2e spells that reverse the effect of defiler razed land.. causing grass to grow.. as well as trees of life.. which hold far more life energy than they should.. (probably due to the connection I think they have with the elemental planes) regardless... regenerating the sun is entirely possible I think..)

I liked the idea of restoring the lost races.. any idea who would want to be transformed though? and who would restore the lost cultural knowledge??

I personally believe that Rajaat's meddling in the Pristine Tower has caused it to malfunction now (thus the random mutations to creatures around it). It hasn't served it's original purpose in millenia.

"If it's not broke, don't fix it, if it is broke, likely a gnome is nearby..."

So if that is the case, that the tower is flawed and malfunctioning.. which I could ascribe to, especially without Rajaat there to "tidey up" the little messes his tower makes.. who would fix it?? Personally, I think that Athas.org should (eventually) get around to doing the whole messenger adventure.. and after it's done.. make a second one.. a spinoff.. for whomever wins out (nature master / nature bender) and have that individual, along with the PC's, treck out to the Pristine Tower, in an effort to do a little tinkering.. Question is.. would this attract the attention of the SK's? Certainly the messenger itself would right? (unless that landed at specifically the time of the great earthquake.. being the cause of it... and they were 'distracted' by Rajaat and Bory's death and all.. ) Let's say the SK's aren't involved... might this be a good chance to bring Oronis out of the shadows?? After all, if the above were true, and the SK's were occupied... Oronis never showed.. and hence could have been available to see the messenger land.. and would have sent (PC's) adventurers to investigate...

(You think the Messenger may have originally been designed for a water landing?? Hence the really huge touch down on solid earth??? rather than a large splash and a rise to the surface?)

Ok, so it's an attempt to tie the messenger into the Tower.. could be overdone, which is why I say leave it to chapter 2, the second adventure... but in the first one.. do whatever...

You'll have to forgive me, I really like the tower, and would like to see it in more adventures... I'd think that Sadira would have expressed to 'some' how she got changed, and that info could now be in the ears of many who might use/abuse that info.. so I think the tower should be seen more often in upcoming adventures.. don't you? plus, its a big mistery, and could be just as life altering (if you'll excuse the pun!) if not more so, than a character obtaining the Dark Lense! Minor difference being, one, it's occupied, and two, stationary.. and three.. not likely just anyone could use it!

I harbor a opposite opinion.
My belief is that the Tower was designed to, among other things, emit a mutational field (for lack of a better word) that the nature-masters could manipulate so as to create new creatures from old ones without the need to, basically, do all the hard work. An analogy would be that the nature-masters were AI programmers who made use, for the purpose of the Rebirth, of the Tower's ability to modify existing programs so they could easily be trandfomred into AIs without the need of hundreds of ours of coding.

The nature-masters used their innate capability to mainupalte this field to achieve the Rebirth, and Rajaat used sorcery just as potent to squeeze out desired changes from it, in effect not just enchanting his Champions but partially lifeshaping them.

Without anyone at the controls - nature-masters or Rajaat - the Tower's effects on the surrounding area revert to its standard configuration: mutation fest.

Pretty much.

or does it do something even now?

There's no indication of it. I could accept pretty easily a passive action it undertakes on a continuous basis, like maintening something or other, or preventing something or whatnot. Actively doing things, on the other hand, no.

can it be used for more than it is? (Asside from Sadira's transformation)

Sure, the Tower should be helpful for a hundred different things that have not been explored in the novels, mostly helpful in boosting and altering magic and lifeshaping.
