ok so she is wanting to run a game and decided to use the DL setting, of the players i'm by far the most experienced and am the only one who has read the books. she is wanting to set the game at the beginning of the war of the lance because she doesn't want resurection to be available with out some extream difficulty, in my game the same players often do stupid things just because they know that they can come back even with the xp loss. So wanting to chalange myself i decide to play a wizard but i'm not sure how to go about what i want, i don't wana be a renigade but i don't like being forced to specialize either, i know people say its better but i can't help but not like giving up even 1 school of magic. So where should i go with this take the specialization and run with it try and find other prcs that would show more independant work rather than being a tower wizard. and how the heck do i stay alive with no one being able to heal out side of the heal skill. 1 good hit and i'm reaching for the dice bag to roll up a new character.

thanks.

You don't need to specialize to be a Wizard of High Sorcery. We fixed that with the Age of Mortals and Towers of High Sorcery sourcebooks, which remove the requirement. Instead, you can remain a generalist wizard, you can become a specialist once you take your 1st level in the PrC, or you can become an enhanced specialist (the way it's described in the DLCS) if you're already a specialist.

Cheers,
Cam

Thanks for the reply Cam. I have been working on said character and decided to go for Div as a specialty when i take my first level as WHS and give up necro i'll just make sure any necro spells that i want i will have gotten into my spellbook by then, doubt i will use many since i will be good but stuff like Gentle Repose and Halt undead will probably be on that list.

here is a link to my character build that i am planning on trying to pull off. for any who are interested. Any comments posted by those who understand the setting would be apreciated, wana make sure my character feels DL not 'i just escaped form FR'.

Looks like a pretty good build. What other, if any, PrCs besides White Robes or Archmage are you looking at taking?

DM Decided to try and keep it more to the core books and setting so she didn't let in the I7V rpc so i did a rebuild using age of mortals War Mage and ToHS Spellbroker classes since she will make magic items next to impossible to get, at least the items that we realy want. Might of might not take archmage to cap it off, she is eliminateign the skill focus requirement for it so i can pull it off but don't know if it wold be too over the top. I want the character to be utterly devoted to the use and growth of magic thus the items and the large ammounts of reseach that i plan to do with them.
