My two ceramics to the Athasian Amateur Art Archive [edit: now 4 ceramics]

1
My take on a tari

2
2 jozhals(?)/reptiles in the desert

3
A jozhal speeding away after having stolen something magical

4 (NEW!!)
Taxideos, jozhal psion, agent of House Wavir.
Using his telekinetic powers, Taxideos made the gith to smash his own head with his club. Now he takes him into captivity and let the rest of the party know that everything is OK, except for the gith . What will happen with the gith is unknown: Taxideos is not an evil person, the party however...

Nope, it's not just you. So either it's just you and me, or either they're not working at all :D

Something isn't right.

I even took it back to just the domain, and even that won't load.

Elfwood is quite buggy lately (or maybe the board. I don't know)
Anyway, I think it is working now

nice attempt,

but just to fire up a conversation,
who the heck made up those creatures, were they needed??

i think they should keep this kind of additional "crap" out of theyre attempts to fluff up Dark Sun.

(same goes for the Eland and the maenads and Xephs in my opinion anyway)

Needed? Of course they are needed. You cannot have a world or foodchain without small creatures. It is already hard for me to imagine that on a world like Athas life could exist. It is impossible for me to imagine that Athas is merely populated by predators. And besides, jozhals are excellent clerics, so they are needed for Athas at least.
To my knowledge, tari and jozhals were already there in the original material.
Yes, the tari may be drawn a bit too fluffy here as compared with original drawing (Monstrous Manual II), but still they are small creatures so you cannot expect much more.
For jozhals I did not have an official reference except the following fan based drawing that you can see here: http://www.geocities.com/tticd/jozhal.jpg . I like that image and I think that jozhals are not more predator-like than that.
[edit: I found some jozhals in the Asticlian Gambit adventure, players book page 40. Those look bigger than the one that is drawn here, but mine surely runs faster ;)]
So the answer to your question "who the heck made up those creatures" would be: the creators of Darksun/Athas

I think that Agis talks to a blind jozhal in the Obsidian Oracle.

Tari? MMII? Fluffy? Arooo...?!

Johzal appear for the first time in the PP novel where the heroes go to Balic, and were stated in the Wanderer's Journal (the very first DS product of them all!). They are small bipedal lizards close to certain dinosaurs with forward-facing arms, and rely on speed and thievery to survive. Highly intelligent as well.

Tari appear for the first time (as well as being stated) in DSMCII. Medium size rat-like humanoids, they live underground where they have hidden ever since their civilization fell during the Wars. They rely on stealth and a diseased bite to survive. Also highly intelligent.

None are fluffy, all are DS-originals. Any entry in another, non-DS product since is a rip-off.

Actually I belive tari appear in Dark Sun: Shattered Lands video game(1993) 1st before their appearance in DSMCII, but that also applies to a couple other creatures in DSMCII as well.

New picture added. My current character Taxideos. A jozhal psion (nomad) who works at House Wavir. To my knowledge the first jozhal with clothes ;)
I think that this picture matches a jozhal better than the one before.

Using his telekinetic powers, Taxideos made the gith to smash his own head with his club. Now he takes him into captivity and let the rest of the party know that everything is OK, except for the gith . What will happen with the gith is unknown: Taxideos is not an evil person, the party however...

Tnx!

I see now that I may need to tweak around a bit with the contrast and colours. I'm not that experienced. Maybe something like this:

Probably the jozhal is too dark now, but that will be changed. Furthermore I will tie the gith up in rope almost entirely, so that it is better visible that he is captured instead of dead or something else (?). Well, I'll try some things and I will let you know the result

Radical.

Yes, maybe it is something too much. I think I keep it the way it was with some minor revisions (the rope and some shadows). Then I put it on my Elfwood page.

Furthermore I may add a black border, because it was probably my last Athasian picture for a while; after 9 years (for me 6 years) we've quit Dark Sun .
