Hi all.

1st post :D

Anyone out there play over the internet? I used to play Dark sun back in like ... man, must have been 93 or so (I was 14). Had a cool DM. We did a lot and had a great time. I wouldn't mind getting back into it 14 years later (weird and woah). It's great to see people didn't let such a cool thing go.

Thx,

s1ck

Welcome to the board (I get the new guy first), we like fresh meat, uhaaa, new people here :D ;)

I do not play on-line, I have a group I run into the dirt about every three weeks or so, but IIRC Aram had a PBP game he was doing- I could be wrong though.

Heh.. i relish the fresh meat stage...

it woudl seem Like IM (yahoo or aol for example) with a cool group could work very well?

Does anyone do that?

Where do you play?

well, i'm modifying some game systems, and i wouldn't want to dm it until i was complete (takes me a while because of school)...but yeah i'd be interested to play darksun online even if i had to gm it

If your gming...all the better. I am currently working on martial arts for another campaign of mine...but i'm weird...

Yeah, if you need to get a hold of me, my AIM is LifeOnRemote23s and my email is Bulemicbear@yahoo.com

I lieterally haven't played in 14 years. Last I played it was like 93. I don;t even know what's up with 3,5 edition, but I will start checking it out. I will also see if one of the GMs I played with back then is still around. He was great at it. If anything, I could be into GMing, but it would be awhile before I caught up. You can get pretty creative using IM and what not- I woudl think.

I am delving into rulz 3.5, any tips on other sources?

As I get up to speed I will keep y'all posted, and let you know if Ithink Gming is in my or anyone's best interest.

It could be nice to keep this thread alive with ideas on how to play.

Well you'll want the following books for sure:

Players Handbook (PHB), Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG), Monster's Manuel (MM), And the Expanded Psionics Handbook (XPH)

You might want to pick up some of these books later:

Complete Warrior (CW) For all the fighter feat. Fighters are a little underpowered at higher levels without access to the greater selection of feats available in this book. The other complete books are good too (especially the complete adventurer), but this one is the most essential.

Sandstorm (SS) A great reasource for running DS games. Many of the eviromental rules, spells, and monsters fit perfectly into the setting and some of the other material can be easily adapted and fit into a DS campaign. Silt and Sun clerics are very limited in their spell selection without the spells in this book. The other enviroment books are OK, but of zero use for DS games.

Unearthed Arcana (UA) A great reasource for DMs who want to teak the rules. Contains a wealth of options and ideas for alternate base classes, races, class features, and other rules.

Races of Stone (RoS) The 1st and best of the races books. Great for dwarves (not everything is appropriate for DS dwarves, but a lot is), earth clerics, and monsters, and even contain some psionic material including a PrC and a few new powers. The other races books are pretty questionable, they have a little bit of very good material and a lot of material that will leave you saying WTF!

Monater Manuel II (MMII) Actually contains a lot of old DS monsters officially updated for 3.5 and a number of others that fit perfectly into the setting.

As a matter of fact, I'm currently working on a Neverwinter Nights adaptation of the Dark Sun setting for a couple of friends right now. Unfortunately the engine doesn't capture the full breadth of rules in the current D&D systems (whether 3.0 or 3.5... basically irrelevant since the setting is discontinued).

In the long term I would like to adapt the setting to a Neverwinter Nights 2 game engine. Of course I will have to check up on the finer points of the open gaming license and such before I would make it available to the public, but the goal would be to make it mesh the setting with 3.5 as closely as possible.

I'm sure you'll be seeing plenty of me on this forum. :D

Also if anybody wants to contact me on MSN, please put gregorylenhardt@hotmail.com on your list. I'm always up for DS discussion.

The monster manual 3 is also useful as theres several creatures in there I plan on using. I used the Salt Mummy on the PCs from that book when they crossed the salt flats near Gulg.

So how does this work? AIM?

Im sure threw instant messaging, pics could be sent and group chats would be easy. A DM could have everything already written out in a file and just cut/paste descriptions of the encounters and story to IM the players.

dont know how to go about this. but if you guys are serious, here is my email. Let me know what is required.

I've been running a DS PbP for about a year now. Currently I've got 7 other players, but I'm looking to expand the adventure into an all out campaign with seperate partys on seperate, but intertwining, adventures. If anyone wants in send me a message and I'll help you get set up at the site I'm running it on and you could be playing in about a week.

I coudl be up to it, but realistically, since I haven't played in sooo ****ing long, it would probably be much better if i played a bit 1st. The breadth of stuff ot go out and read/learn.. i just ain't got the time- but playing can probably get me on track faster learning the new rules.

Hey Sage- just an FYI- my PC is a Human Preserver 2/ Psion (telepath) 1.

WHAT! One of us might need to alter our character concept.....though there is a great possible connection between our characters :D; mine's a Human (Quater-Elf actually) Bard 2/ Psion(telepath) 1!

Have you finished your's yet? I just finished my intial appearance/personality/history write-up. I've got my stats and feats, I think. But I haven't worked out my skill points yet. I'm waiting for Horse's ressponce before I finish all the other details. And would like to do a little coordination of backstories possibly.

I wrote such a beautiful backstory for my character, and now I might need to ditch it and go with one of my other concepts
It all rests on the other party members, please make combat worthy characters! :fight!: It looks like the social skills and magic/psionic categories are pretty well covered.

Sounds cool- But why change? I have a wicked cool back story too.

I have stats, feats, psionic powers, back story- the rest will be finished soon, but I have been working like 55+ hours a week and have not had that much time to really poor into it.

I do also have a bunch of languages though- so communication should not be huge problem as long as we got some muscle to smooth the 'dilpomacy' out .

GO! GO! Celestial Dire Badger!

The funny thing is, is that he had a druid character with a common badger as an animal campanion in an Ebberon campaign a friend of ours was running (I had a rogue/wizard/cleric/mystic thurge :D - and I was not even the worst power gamer) Anyway... his badger usually did better in combat then the warforged fighter we had in out group- his character was named Kor, and he could not hit the broadside of a barn- a feature he has currently been carrying with him as Dakken in my DS campaign.

Well I guess to be fair he has had a few really good nights, but those are rare as rain on Athas.

Just to let everyone know, you can apply to the game and still update your character's sheet as long as the application is pending. I actually prefer this method because it lets me know who is still working on their characters and who has given up and moved on to something else.

Also, I give 300 xp for character portraits, as long as they're not of some famous character like for example, Rikus or Sadira or even worse, Frodo Baggins.

Ssurran druid / cleric concept is dead

So i'm thinking half-elf ranger / druid. How does this fit in with the rest of the group? trying to see what the group lacks. Other options are preserver / ranger or rouge / ranger combo.

Thoughts?

Jaanos

I know how you feel wanting to "balance" out the group. Kal is right telling you to make what you want If you think about it having a group w/ 2 of the same class that can provide food and water in the desserts has a better chance of survival. Here is what I think we have so far...

-Squidfur???
-preserver/psion
-bard/psion
-ranger/psychic warrior

Play what ever you want. ;)

Yeah me too, but I definitely can't take credit for it. That's all Kurin's doing. He drew, kedrik's pic as well, and I think he's working on an acid spitting nikaal right now (he had a nasty run in with one a while back, and I guess it left an impression *grin*).

I'm still waiting for Jaanos, Dregonflyus, and Korvar to complete their characters, but like I said to you three who are done and waiting, the game will be starting approximately a week from now, with or without them.

That doesn't mean however I can't fit them in later, it just means we need to get this thing going if you're ever going to make it to ... in time. (don't worry the ellipses will be explained IC).

Unfortunately, I'm going to be stuck in London for the rest of this week and all next, away from my books and away from my home 'net connection. I've also never created a 3rd ed. character before! Is there enough detail in what I've already given for someone to do up a sheet for me?

Just gotta finish a little fluff stuff, weapons etc... basically ready to go... looking foward to it!

Quite frankly...Nope :D

As we aren't even supposed to know the details of each others characters, I think Horse would frown upon this approach anyway, but there's far more detail in the creation of a character than what you've said here - or at least there should be.

but like I said to you three who are done and waiting, the game will be starting approximately a week from now, with or without them.

That's just about perfect, cuz that's about when I'll be getting back from vacation. I'll still probably find a way to get on here and check in just in case though :D

Not THAT type of infatuation! he's just a little like a half-giant... he's drawn to thier culturer and focus... all to do with a specific event in his history.

Korvar - just send me a message when you get back and we'll get to work on your 3.5 character. And don't worry about books, those aren't really all that necessary anymore. Between Athas.org and the multiple SRD sites that are out there you should have all you need at your fingertips. Just as long as you have a decent connection.

Yeah Jaanos is in, and Dragenfleyus is extremely close to being completed as well. I have hopes for the Game to start next weekend.

Sounds like a bit of a stretch , I guess we are the skill monkeys of the party :D . I'm the master of in town skills, and you the master of wilderness skills.

I've found in a number of games that a Ranger / Rouge combo serves as the basis of a kick-butt "head-hunter" type character (not the intention in this case). Rouge allows to trace and find people in the city, ranger allows allows physical tracking in the wild. Decent combat, can follow them anywhere.... :D

In this case, it's more of a matter of a thief has found his calling but is still tied to his previous profession ;)

Ok things are moving along pretty good right now. I might be able to get the first turn out tomorrow even. For all of you who are playing, check the site, there are some messages there that need to be read. Oh and the login screen has been moved to the top right of the tool bar. Took me a while to find it myself.
