We always use the Curse of the Magi when we play in Dragonlance. Whats your opinion on the matter?

I like the variant. It gives spells more, like wow. It spruces up your average magic missle with roleplaying. Like for example, wow that was one powerfull missle I used on that gnoll. It drained my bad by the raw power of it. Also it makes your spell hurling(fr style :D) more choicey.

You have to choose the right spells, it puts more strain on the pc. Which one to use, it will drain me bad!

Also it just shows the raw power of high sorcery. :D

Never used it, primarily because Raistlin was the only wizard that seemed to suffer under its effects.

If I remember correctly the good wizard in Tanis the shadow years also suffered from it.

I don't like it much, honestly - the Curse in the books is an attempt to explain why wizards only cast a certain number of spells/day, it doesn't really need another game mechanic in my opinion.

That's what I always thought too, which is why I found the variant rule kinda pointless. Just another rules mechanic to worry about.

I personally like it. It helps to try and maintain some balance for casters. Let's face it at higher levels mages dominate just about every other class(especially melee classes) and I find this brings some balance.

Execpt, Sorcerers and Clerics don't suffer the curse of the magi so your reasoning doesn't make any sense.
