Would barmy Sons of Mercy try rescuing lower planes petitioners, given oppurtunities?

I was just wondering: the Sons of Mercy tend to be very concerned about faults in the criminal justice system. They would rather the guilty go free than imprison innocents. We know that some of the more radical sons are considering free some prisoners who never got a trial and have no appeal: those mazed by The Lady herself.

The question is, would some of the barmiest Sons of Mercy try to take on the largest, harshest prison system in the multiverse: the planes themselves? Petitioners to the lower planes are punished for all eternity: no parole, no appeal, no getting out on good behavior. There's no rehab program: they only get worse and more evil, as they merge with the essence of the plane. Would the Sons try to raid the towers around Khin-Oin (if not Khin-Oin itself), trying to free all the petitioners who are kept there doing menial repair work from all the damage done by the blood war? Of course, in the Grey Waste, they might have to be dragged away, because they're probably so depressed and hopeless that they wouldn't even try to escape their situation when a rescue party comes after them.

I'm thinking about Morte from Planescape: Torment.

He's an ex-petitioner of Baator. He was rescued from the Pillar of Skulls. (although the practical incarnation of the Nameless One, who rescued him, was pretty far from the LG ideals of the Sons of Mercy) After he was freed from Baator, he changed, from (presumably) LE to CG, over the years.

I've decided to bump this, on the hopes that the second time around someone might respond. I do hate bumping things and cluttering up the forums, but I'm curious, darnit!

Shrug. If you like the idea, do it.

Certainly, the Sons likely see this as an example of their belief in the fact that all creatures possess an inherent quality of goodness... and thus, would believe that perhaps maybe something should be done to help these petitioners.

But I wouldn't think it would be an easy objective to carry out. Afterall, most of those evil souls are there for a reason!

I never said it would be easy. I'm picturing a bunch of gallant, heroic Sons of Mercy, streamers trailing their banners brightly, charging into the Abyss to rescue the petitioners there, and fighting valiantly for approximately two minutes before being slaughtered by demons. :evillaugh
