Does the city, Serraine (sp?) detailed in Top Ballista get mentioned in any other Mystara products?

Does any thing happen to it on the 'day of no magic'? (can't recall the title).

If a GM wanted to have the whole city gated to another Crystal sphere, but he wanted the event to occur _after_ the last mention of the city in Mystara (so he could use the Mystaran background unaltered, except for the gating event) when would be a good time for this to happen? After Joshuan's Almanac?

[I'm thinking of having the city gated into Bralspace in my Spelljammer campaign, but I thought why change the background? Starnger things have happened.]

Thanks for any help!

IIRC its mentioned in the Poor Wizards Almanacs as well as Joshuans Almanac, and possibly Wrath of the Immortals.

Again IIRC I believe it loses altitude. (or at least that was an option given).

That's probably the best option.

This is a good option, though if you want to include the information from the fanmade Mystaran Almanacs, you might want to postpone it even further.

In any case, Serraine is alright, and was not damaged during WotI. This was probably due to the fact that the city is kept up by part magic and part technology, hence the losing of altitude that Gary mentioned.

If you're taking Serraine into a SJ settingh, it might be worth remembering that it would have to be to low orbit on a habitable world. Serraine lacks both meaningful agricultural output and an independant means of air regeneration.

Interesting, I'm thinking that wind towers (38) and the wind organ (39) could refresh air in some magic way, as well as picnic fields (32) and hanging gardens (30) could do it in a more mundane way (as plants growing on lizardman spelljammers). But maybe it is non enought. Maybe gnomes could invent an air-refreshing-machine-that-adsorbes-foul-air-from-undercity-and-gives-it-back-as-daisy-smelling-oxigenic-air.

For food supply... Oenkmar is wholly supported by priestly magic create food... it could be so also in Serraine (but poor Smurfri-Lodestar F3F cloud clipper pilots would be workless...)

Well, interesting opportunities, but MY Serraine will be Mystara locked for a long time ;)

Speacking about Serraine, as my campaign is Serraine based now...

I think that Serraine, with it's everchanging point of wiev, is a perfect town to draw some picture of the whole world.

As there are much immigrants in Serraine, I'm thinking about putting a very very little Ochalea-Town (China-Town, you know?) in my Seraine. Maybe 2 or 3 buildings (as the city is small, and not all humans in Serraine are of Ochalean-blood). It is fun that one of my former PC (about 10 years ago) was Kien-Tsu Natashi (born in Beitung) enstablished an house in Serraine.

Now, in Ochalea-Town, live some Ochalean. But there is also a fellow, one of the greatest cartographers in the world. He married an Ochalean nice girl (named Kika) and in his shop (in the middle of Ochalea Town) you can find maps from every corner of Mystara, at a really good price. Someone tells he went there, someone tells he just looked from the sky. The guy is known as Thorf.
What I don't know is if he is from Saltshore, Osterlo Island, Ostland; of if he is from Tavish, Klantyre, Glantri.
Can someone help me?

Smeg, I answered this over at Dragonsfoot before I came here and saw that there's already an interesting discussion on it

I changed my mind... I'm thinking they will be a couple of Rakastas, Thorf from Bellaine, and Kika from Myoshima...

What do you think?

LOL, I only started to get this halfway through reading it. :D :embarrass

I would go with Osterslo Island, I think. Obviously my full name, Thorfinn, fits in perfectly in the Northern Reaches.

But you are also correct in thinking that Myoshima would be a better fit for the Japanese - I always felt that Ochalea was mostly a Chinese influence, judging by the names.

In that case, Bellayne is not so bad, because it does seem rather British.

Wow, I'm an NPC in Serraine! How cool. Thanks!

Yes, that's why I choosed Ostland... and it's an island... I think you like your NPC to be born in an island.

Yes...

But I don't like to build a couple with human and rakasta...
Just immagine the child... an half-rakasta... I don't like it!!!!!

So... human or rakasta?... this is the question...

I decided I like more humans.
So, my Serrainian Thorfinn Tait will be a Northlander human from Saltshore - Osterlo.
As everybody knows, Ostland is not a very advanced civilization: they write on stone boards... how could a cartographer spring from this foggy island?

Young Thorffin was not a rude looter as his friends and brothers. So,he did not leave on a drakkar to loote nearby villages. He leaved to Norrvik to go to the world famous univerity of Uppsala College. There, he studied, he learned how to read, write and draw.
He was really talented, so he graduated from Uppsala College and went to Corunglain. Here he attended classes at University of Corun, being really talented in land-based exploration (one of the main class at Corun).

Now, in my AD&D based Mystara, Thorfinn is a 19th level Human Cartographer (a sage character class from "Sages and Specialists" - TSR 2146). He lives in Serraine, from where he can see land borders and draw them. He is good at runereading and poetry (learned at Uppsala College) and he is very very very good (19th level) at cartography. His cartography proficency score of intelligence (15) + 9 His other known proficiencies are direction sense, forgery (to copy maps), reading/writing, artistic ability (to embellish maps) and navigation (learned in drakkars). He is fluent in Heldannic, Thyatian (Darokinian dialect) and Skycommon. He is devote to the Antalian pantheon.

Here you can see him in his shop

Now... I need some help to describe Kika. Can you say something about her?
I decided she is Ochalean, human.
But I need some more help to describe her in game terms.

Wow, there's even a cartographer character class for me! :D

I had to go and buy the PDF of Sages and Specialists right away when I saw that. Unfortunately it's taking ages to download.

Anyway, very nice write up, I feel very honoured. (Wait a minute! Only 15 intelligence?!? :P )

About Kika... Her maiden name was Kika Mogamiya, although now of course she is Kika Tait. She's actually a dance instructor (jazz and hip hop dancing). She is very bright and funny. She loves shopping, and she's a great cook. If I were to give her stats, I suppose she might be Str 14 Int 13 Wis 15 Dex 16 Con 12 Cha 16. But hey, I'm rather biased. ;)

Yes, but what about a 24 skill in cartography! 24 on a d20... not so bad! ;)
