DL RTS game

I think that the Dragonlance universe would be a great setting for a RTS game.

First the races and nations you can play. I HATE it when a RTS game makes every group in the game the same (Age of Empires is the worst for this), it doesn't matter who you play you basically get the same experience. In a DL RTS I wouldn't worry about matching up every unit in every race, each would have their own units, strengths and weaknesses so that the experience is different depending on who you play.

Solamnic Knights

The Knights would be all about having some very strong units that are hard to kill. They would have the strongest calvary in the game who after defeated also fight on foot, meaning you have to kill the Knight twice, they would be the back bone of a Solamnic army. However because their infintary is made up of hired soliders and armed peasents they would be, while very cheap, the weakest in the game, they would exist mostly to support the calvary. The Solamnic Knights would also have access to two types of Clerics, Clerics of Paladine who are strong combat units and use their magic while fighting, and clerics of Mishakal(sp) who are pure healers. The archers would be average as would their seige engines and navy units. They would be the only faction in the game that has no arcane magically units. The Knights of Solamnia would be one of only 2 factions that could build and use Dragon Units, for them the Golds would be the "ground pounding" or "bombers", the Bronze would be strongest against other dragons in the air, Silvers would be a good mix between the Gold and Bronze and last Brass would be scouts. The Knights would also be able to upgrade their dragon units with Dragon Lances, making them the strongest in arial combat.

Dragon Armies

Would be the most balanced of the factions in the game. They would have a good calvary, though not as strong as the Solamnic's. Good archers, seige weapons, and navy units. Their clerics bring a mix of combat and healing magic. They would also have access good mages as well. Like the Knights they could use Dragon Units - Red being the "bombers", Blakes being the arial combat specialists, Blues being a good mix of the two and Whites being the scouts. They could also train Greens who can hide in wooded areas and surprise attack emeny units who get to close. The Dragon Armies biggest strength would be in its infintary, as well normal human soliders they can also train Draconian units who could be deployed from the air and who damage or stun the enemy when they are defeated.

Dwarves

The Dwarves biggest strength would be defense. Their buildings and static defenses would be the strongest in the game, if you are playing the Dwarves, once you get all your walls build and defenses in place you'd be very hard to defeat. Their army would include Mountain Dwarves (slow moving, very high defense and average offense), Hill Dwarves (faster and more powerful then Mountain Dwarves but not as strong defensively) and Gully Dwarves (very, very cheap, fast, used basically just to swarm the enemy). The Dwarves would have no calvary and only Griffons for arial units (no match for Dragons). When playing the Dwarves you could also build Gnomes who make very good seight weapons (though always a chance they might blow up) and strong anti-dragon weapons (anti-aircraft). Their clerics are good fighters and have mostly combat magic but a little healing as well. The Dwarves, like the Solamnic Knights, wouldn't have access to mages. Last the Dwarves arches would be average (get better when stations on a wall or in a tower) and no navy.

Elves

The Elves would revolve completely around stealth and hit and run tatics, as such Elven units would be able to hide in wooded area's, catching enemies off guard. Their arches would be the best in the game, strong and with a longer range then anyone else, charging a group of Elven archs would be a costly thing. Their calvary would be very fast but not much strong not much stronger then an average infintary unit and have the option of firing arrows from horse back as well, their infintary would be average. Elven Clerics would be healers not combat units. Like the Dwarves they would only have griffons for air units. The Elves biggest strength would be their mages who would be the artilary, seige weapons and anti-dragon weapons. Their navy would be very fast but not hte strongest in the game.
