I've been looking through my stuff and I can't seem to find any info on "The Seventh Tree", does anyone know where I can find anything about it?

161st King's Age (-2,233)
-Ral's Fury
Infuriated at her lack of progress, Rajaat turns research of the Inner
Planes over to Qwith's subordinates. Shortly after an accident of unknown
origins opens a gate to the Inner Planes, and obsidian flows across the
land for hundreds of miles in each direction until the gate is closed by
the Seventh Tree. Thousands die in the disaster.
Those killed by obsidian rise as undead through a mysterious power from the
Inner Planes. Rajaat's servants arise as the rulers of this land, becoming
powerful thinking undead wizards and psionicists. The Dead Lands are born.

And another thing...wasn't there something called "The Last Tree"?

Yeah, you definately want to wait for this.

I've been drooling over it since I got the original manuscript of it and DA back in the day.

I can't really comment any further either though I will give you a quick tease, it's probably not what you think it is.

Are you ever going to share your crack with me? That's some good stuff!

Oh yeah, need to read the rest of your poetry too, started that yesterday and got sidetracked with another job offer.

No crack- never touched an illegal drug in my life, but I could hook you up with a couple of sessions of shock therapy and boom- "...it just might be the next best thing, but not quite me..." :D

Jobs are over-rated, read my poems and your life will have meaning :D
I just posted some additional notes on my world I have been developing for my book- you can check that stuff out too if you want.

Well- I am alway up to a guessing challenge- let me see....

I would have to venture a guess that it is not really a tree, most likely it is a person or an orginization from the time with that name or title, either a preserver or druidic force, but a SotL would not be out of the question either.

Yeah, I keep telling that to the stack of bills I have pilling up in the corner, but they don't seem to want to listen.

I quote "Terrors of the Dead Lands", page 20, sidebar "Behind the Curtain: Transformation Requirements":

To make kaisharga particularly rare, introduce more steps in the tree of death creation; perhaps the sapling must grow from a seed of the Seventh Tree of the Dead Lands - a tree the Dead Lands' inhabitants are not even aware exists!

Actually the correct translation is 'spring roll' -eggroll is the Western cultures bastardization of the word:D

Personally, I prefer the shrimp ones- getting those squermy little halflings in those tight little rolls is the hardest part, but is is worth all the trouble when you can drop them in the hot oil- that is the fun part IMAGE(http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/ruinkai/FIREdevil.gif)

Maybe you should switch to humans or elves, they are much easier, once you chop them up.

I once read something about the last tree being a wizard preserver (or were it a psion) halfling that instead of dying after a great battle transformed himself into a huge tree.

Yep, it's a lifeshaped artifact that was created by a preserving halfling (or maybe it was a druid, too lazy to look it up right now) that turned himself into a tree.

Probably more fitting that it was a druid since the Revised box set axed the whole halflings can be preservers but Illusionists only thing.

Okay- I actually looked this up, but the reason that we in the US call it an eggroll is becasue when the Chinease settlers came here to the US, the major ingrediant in making a of the dough-stuff on a spring roll was egg- so that is why we call it an eggroll.

Hey Jon- so breaking that down the Var = Spring right?

å Hmm, adding a character like that is fairly easy. Hold down alt, then push 0229 (using the numberpad - using the numbers along the top won't work) and it should work fine.

I am not sure about windows XP, but in the others 95 up to 2000, you can go into start menu > programs > accessories > system tools > and then character map, and it brings up a list of all of those accented characters. Click on the one you want and in the lower right corner is a cose alt+xxxx where the x's are a series of numbers you push using the number pad and it works. Others have no alt code, but you can copy and paste them

I am pretty sure you can find the character map in winXP by using the old menu options and following the above path.

å is alt+0229

All the special symbols are keyed up to various Alt+"number" combinations. In Microsoft Word you can even set the commands to your liking.

Good old ASCII pad. In the early days of the commercial web, Norwegian keyboards didn't have the ~ as a separate key. In those days, that character was used a lot more in URLs than today, so if you didn't know how to produce it you had a real issue.

Sadly, the project group I put together to work on completing the Secrets of the Dead Lands has become another victim of contemporary real life. Coupled with technical issues with our mailing lists... yeah, you get the picture. However, the individual brave souls that do prioritize and have the capacity to put in the necessary hours on the project, are doing a great job. It's just not going as fast as scheduled. To be honest, the schedule was rather ambitious. But I promise we'll get it out this year!

I just got back from basic training at Fort Sill two weeks ago. I've got lots of spare time on my hands at the moment, and I will all summer long. I still have all of the original Tim Brown authored Secrets of the Dead Lands files, the ones given to Athas.org long ago, on my hard drive... back from the period I was heavily involved with Athas.org years ago... back when I helped put out the early version of Terrors of the Dead Lands. Heck, I think I still have most of the old email discussions about Terrors and Secrets!

As someone with more than passing familiarity with the Dead Lands... I offer my help getting Secrets out the door.

Hey Eric. Good to see you poking your head in these days.

Yeah, being out of contact with the world since the start of the year (and out of contact with most of my RPG mailing lists and forums longer than that) and not being able to do anything fun got me yearning many things I had put away. My gaming books being nearly top of the list. I pulled out my box of WotC 3.5 books and the box with my Dark Sun collection almost the instant I returned home. ;)

Just like you flip, instead of going back and reading everything I missed... I just stepped back in and am only reading the new stuff...
