Are there any free moon tracker softwares, which allows the DM to input no. of days from a given starting point?

I found one here by Robert Madsen (1997), but Lunitari and Nuitari are reversed. And the other one at DL Nexus is a forecast and not programmable...

I posted an xls file to the nexus last week that might give you what you want.
It is a bit complex, but it allows everything you are asking for and provides it in a handy calendar/campaign log format.

This works great if printed out. The PCs and DM can see the alignment of each moon on each day and have room to take some small notes for that day either as an archive/diary, or as a plan...

Where is that? I can't find it under utilities at http://www.dl3e.com/fan/rules/utilities.aspx

Well, there's always my calendars but I didn't think this was really what you were looking for.

I've changed the base year to 354 AC. What do I need to do to Gregorian Year Offset, if anything?

I changed the Calendar Nomenclature to Solamnic, which changed the names of all the months, but now there are no dates on the calendar???

What does Earth Offset Year do? What effect does changing it have?

Soulsong...

I've changed the base year to 354 AC. What do I need to do to Gregorian Year Offset, if anything?

Our campaign started off mirroring the real world calendar for 1997 (this was actually years after we started the campaign, it is just that is when we decided to implement a good calendar). I calculated this offset based on that somehow, though I no longer remember why (you can see the earth equivalent year just to the right). It may have been to simply calculate the current year based on a start year of 1997. I later found that date calculations only seem to work over a specific range of dates (I think it is the 1970something issue from DOS) via date calculations in Excel. To correct this, I would just move the Gregorian offset year forward so that the date ranges are possible again.

For 354, the earliest gregorian offset year that works looks like 1546.
You could probably check the line up of dates on the cycling calendar (the dates of the calendar repeat every so many years - I think every 28?) and then move the gregorian offset ahead by multiples of this cycle.

http://www.dl3e.com/fan/rules/14398.aspxI changed the Calendar Nomenclature to Solamnic, which changed the names of all the months, but now there are no dates on the calendar???

This is due to the date calculation issues above. If you advance the gregorian offset year, it should fix this. Depending on this offset, you should be able to align the dates of this calendar with those of your existing campaign (then you would need to tweak the moon offsets in the next big section of columns to the right). You should be able to set this up once and then use it forever for a given campaign.

http://www.dl3e.com/fan/rules/14398.aspxWhat does Earth Offset Year do? What effect does changing it have?

Again, my memory of this was to ensure that the moon tracking would be consistent across years, as well as being absolute with reference to our starting calendar year. You should be able to tweak the year, month, and day which is the base date from which all moon cycles begin (based on the moon offsets in that section).

Again, once you find the settings for your campaign, the only things you should need or want to change are the years, the Calendar nominclature (for Solamnia, Elven, etc... for the specific characters background etc...), or to add aniversaries, birthdays, etc...

Once this is set up and saved, it allows easy printout of a fairly nifty calendar if I do not say so myself. Not the most elegant approach and it will likely take some experimentation, but I hope that this is something you can use and appreciate.

I've changed the base year to 354 AC.

After looking at my xls a bit more, it seems that there are some other problems related to the cycling of the moons if the Earth Equivalent Year is before the Earth Offset Year in the Moon Phase section. In this case, they run backwards (The phases should be OK, but the Waxing and Waning indicators will be swapped.

For 354 AC, I would suggest setting the Gregorian Offset Year to something large (like 2000). This will result in an Equivalent Earth Tear of 2354. I know this is a bit high but we are only interested in a consistent calendar and going this high will let you track back in time many years.

Once this is set to your date alignment satisfaction, I would adjust the Earth Offset Month and Earth Offset Day (I would keep the Earth Offset Year at 1997) and the individual Moon Offsets to adjust the Moon Phases to the specific progression you want.

In case you haven't determined the phase notation, it is as follows:

Moon Phases are indicated along the right side of each day cell in the same orientation (in case a color printer is not available).
The top indicator (in Blue) is for Solinari.
The middle indicator (in Red) is for Lunitari.
The bottom indicator (in Black) is for Nuitari.

"O" indicates Full
"+" indicates Waxing
"-" indicates Waning
" " indicates New

If you as a DM were of a mind, it would be easy enough to save a separate copy of this calendar without the phases for Nuitari shown (as only followers of Nuitari/Darkness can see it). To do this, save out a copy of the xls and then in that version, delete the lowest, right-most sub-cell in each day through the year. This will remove the phases for Nuitari.

hope this helps

This makes me think I should put some of these notes on use in the xls sheet itself and repost. I may be able to make the Nuitari phases able to be turned on (via conditional formatting) dependant on an easily set flag at the top. I will try to get to this...

Thanks anyways but I can't get my head around this moon tracker. My simple Excel skills aren't up to par.

I updated the xls (on www.dl3e.com) with one that has improved instructions and the ability to turn off Nuitari Phase Displays.

If you can tell me on what days you want the year to fall/start, and when you want the Moons to be in High Sanction etc... I can probably provide you with the paramaters you need to mirror your campaign.

That would be great!

Our current date is 356, 5th month, 1st day. Nuitari is in high sanction (though this isn't absolutely necessary).

What day of the week is it?
What phases are Lunitari and Solinari in, and what day of their phases are they in?
If you do have these more specific requests, the xls can accomodate them.

If it doesn't matter, use the following:
Krynn Year 356
Gregorian Year Offset 1719

This sets:
The day of the week for 5-1-356 to Wednesday (Solinari).
Nuitari is in its first day (of 2) of High Sanction.
Lunitari is in its last day (of 7) Waxing (First day of High Sanction tomorrow).
Solinari is in its second day (of 9) of Low Sanction.

Solinari is just a sliver of a crescent or has disappeared altogether.
Lunitari is almost full and getting more so.
Nuitari can't be seen ;), but if it could, a full gaping whole would be seen in the night sky (for the next day or 2).

When you reach the last day of the year, just change the year number to 357 and the whole next years calendar will be created.

hope this helps
