teh staff looks different in every single picture. its mutable nature is inherent in the magic, and prevents artists from creating an image of its true form.

no, that's what you think it looks like. its the magic of the staff coupled with artistic interpretation.

Ahhh.. No, I'm pretty sure the artist for The Soulforge messed up the staff, because it has always been described as a dragon's claw holding a orb.

I had always wondered about that aswell.

the artist for soulforge was Larry Elmore. The artist for every major raistlin image was....ALSO LARRY ELMORE.

he drew it how he wanted. We asked about this many years ago, and he said that he drew the staff as he felt like, due to artistic license.

Ahh, Lary Elmore, my favorite TSR/Wizards artist of all time. He was the first person I met at my first GenCon ('89) what a great guy.
