Dragonlance magic question

After a long time I come back to the Dragonlancs CS (used to play the War of the Lance Adventures and read the books, but then, nothing!). In these times the implications with Magic: Curse of the Magi, Primal Magic, Mysticism etc. were not so important, at least to us. At the moment I am reading through the DLCS and am wondering: what kind of Magic do Monsters use. Sure for rather "stupid monsters" it does not matter, the Order of High Wizardry probably never cared, but what about the magic of dragons, what about Outsiders, where do they draw their magic from?
I hope my question is not too confusing.
Thanks!

Those creatures with innate spellcasting abilities draw on ambient magic without the need for Chaos as a filter. Mortals can't access ambient magic in this way without the presence of Chaos' energies in the world (as it was after the Graygem and after the Chaos War) but dragons, fey, etc aren't mortals in the same sense.

It is therefore equivalent to wild magic or sorcery but these creatures may also use focused magic (such as that used by clerics, wizards, druids, etc) without penalty, since Chaos isn't involved.

Cheers,
Cam

On a related but slightly different topic can draconians, spawn, dragons, as well as other creatures with innate spellcasting ability, who use sorcery have an epiphany and change their focus to high sorcery(or wizardry)? I was wondering because of Raistlin's comment that if Khisanth had the spellbook of Fistandantilus she would certainly be using it.

They can't have an epiphany and change their focus, but then they don't need to. They're actually capable of being both innate spellcasters and wizards (Irda are a good example of this happening). Few if any would, however. Why would a dragon resort to using a spellbook when they can channel magic through their bodies naturally?
