I've been working on this over on the psi boards. I figured I'd share it with you guys as well.

Please feel free to comment or insult

Discipline Master

“To unlock the greater power, the mind must learn to narrow its focus even further ”
- Gulem the Gray, discipline master of telepathy

There are those who are adept in the six psionic disciplines, and then there are those who analyze and examine one explicitly in order to achieve mastery. Discipline masters are such individuals who have focused their minds to attain a deeper understanding of a single discipline.

Most races that are skilled in psionics can become discipline masters. Dwarven psions are often found traveling the path of the discipline master due to their races linear out look. Humans may take to the role of discipline master out of a lust for power. Even though a majority of discipline masters are psions, it is not uncommon for psychic warriors or wilders to find their way into this prestige class.

NPC discipline masters are typically found in secluded or remote parts of Athas contemplating the mysteries of the Way. Discipline masters are common place in psionic organizations such as the enigmatic Order. Many are heads of psionic schools or monasteries, such as Nexus, teaching the intricacies of their discipline.

Hit Die: d4
RequirementsTo qualify to become a discipline master, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria.

Skills: Knowledge (psionics) 10 ranks, psicraft 8 ranks.
Feats: Skill Focus (Knowledge [psionics]), any two metapsionic feats.
Powers: Ability to manifest four powers from the same psionic discipline, one of which must be from a disciple only list and another of at least 4th level or higher.

Class Skills
The discipline master’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (psionics) (Int), Profession (Wis), and psicraft (Int). In addition, a discipline master gains access to additional class skills based on his discipline:
(Clairsentience): Gather Information (Cha), Listen (Wis), and Spot (Wis).
(Metacreativity): Bluff (Cha), Disguise (Cha), and Use Psionic Device (Cha).
(Psychokinesis): Autohypnosis (Wis), Disable Device (Dex), and Intimidate (Cha).
(Psychometabolism): Autohypnosis (Wis), Balance (Dex) and Heal (Wis).
(Psychoportation): Climb (Str), Jump (Str), Ride (Dex), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).
(Telepathy): Bluff (Cha), Diplomacy (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), and Sense Motive (Wis).

Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Class Features
All the following are class features of the discipline master prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Discipline masters gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Powers Known: At every level, a discipline master gains additional power points per day and access to new powers as if he had also gained a level in whatever manifesting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (bonus feats, metapsionic or item creation feats, psicrystal special abilities, and so on). This essentially means that he adds the level of discipline to the level of whatever manifesting class the character has, then determines power points per day, powers known, and manifester level accordingly.

If a character had more than one manifesting class before he became a discipline master, he must decide to which class he adds the new level of discipline master for the purpose of determining power points per day, powers known, and manifester level.

Discipline: Every discipline master must decide at 1st level which psionic discipline he will specialize in. Choosing a discipline provides a discipline master with access to the class skills associated with that discipline (see above), as well as the powers restricted to that discipline. However, choosing a discipline also means that the discipline master cannot learn powers that are restricted to other disciplines. He can’t even use such powers by employing psionic items. If the discipline master already has a primary discipline they do not gain a second through this prestige class and receive no benefit from this ability.

Discipline Mastery: At every odd level (1st, 3rd, and 5th level) a discipline master gains a special ability of his choice from among the following:

Bestow Power(Su): A discipline master can expend his psionic focus in order to manifest a power from his discipline with a range of personal as if it had a range of touch on a willing creature. Using this ability increases the power point cost of the power by 1. The power's total cost cannot exceed the discipline master's manifester level.

Efficient Manifester(Ex): The discipline master manifests all powers from his primary discipline by paying power points equal to the standard cost minus 1 (minimum of 1). The effect of this ability is still restricted by the discipline master’s manifester level.

For example, a discipline master with a manifester level of 10th level can manifest a power costing 10 points by spending only 9 points, but cannot manifest a power normally costing 11 points, since the effect of the power would be greater than his manifester level of 10th.

Expanded Mastery(Ex): The discipline master can add to his powers known one additional power up to the highest level power he can manifest. This power must be from the discipine master's choosen discpline, but can be from any psionic class's power list.

Increased Damage(Ex): Powers from the discipline master’s primary discipline have their damage increased by +1 per damage die. This ability is active so long as the discipline master is psioncially focused.

Meta-Entwine(Su): As a full round action, the discipline master may expend his focus in order to apply the effects of any two metapsionic feats that he knows to a power from his primary discipline. The discipline master is still restricted by his manifester level and must pay the usual power point costs for applying metapsionic feats to a power. A discipline master can use this ability a number of times a day equal to his class level.

Signature Power(Ex): The discipline master chooses one power from his primary discipline which he knows. The power can be manifested as if the discipline master were one level higher than his actual manifester level for purposes of determing level-dependant power variables (such as range and duration), power point expenditure, and manifester level checks.

Love it Sysane- IMO it is a better replacement for the Arch Psion (whick was just a psionic cookie cutter shell of the Archmage).

I personally would like to see a bit more on the fluff side though.

These are for you

I think it was about time that a psionic specialist PrC came out. Nice job Sysane.

Yeah, good work Sysane. Don't see anything wrong with it, not overpowered at all and it fills a nice little niche that needed to be filled IMO.

However, I do agree with Kal, it needs more fluff man. Don't forget the fluff!

:D

Something DSish- right now it could fit into any camapign world IMO - which is not a bad thing- it just needs some DS flavored text is all.

Agreed. When I wrote the fluff it was more for the psi boards. A name switch here for the qoute to Gulem the Gray and a mention of Nexus aught to do the trick. I'll work on it more this weekend.

I have a suggestion for an additional Discipline Mastery

Expanded Mastery: Add to your powers known one additional power up to the highest level power you can manifest. This power must be of your choosen discpline, but can be from any psionic class's power list.

Nice and neat class. I like it! :D
