Improved Grab (Ex):
If Hrava hits a Large-size or smaller opponent with both claw attacks, it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity (grapple bonus +29). If it hits with both claws, it can also rake in the same round.

Rake (Ex): On any round that Hrava has a hold of an opponent (see Improved Grab, above), it can make two rake attacks (+24 melee touch) with its hind legs for 1d6 points of damage each. The shadow demon can also attempt to rake when it pounces on an opponent.

Pounce (Ex): If Hrava dives or leaps upon a foe during the first combat round, it can make a full attack.

Spell-like Abilities (Sp)
At will: darkness; 1/day—deeper darkness, damning darkness; 1/week—magic jar. Caster level 18th; save DC 17 + spell level

Psi-like Abilities (Sp)

Hrava posesses the psi-like abilities listed below, somewhat modified from the standard phrenic template. The abilities are cumulative. Unless otherwise noted, an ability is usable once per day. Manifester level 18th; Save DC 17 + power level.

3/day—call to mind; 3/day—missive
3/day—empty mind; telempathic projection
1/day—body adjustment; brain lock
1/day—aversion; sense link, forced
3/day—correspond; 3/day—tongues, psionic
1/day—psionic dominate
1/day—energy current (sonic); personality parasite
3/day—psionic teleport
1/day—fission

Flesh-ripping Claws (Su): When Hrava's claws touch flesh, they become corporeal, allowing the creature to claw, rake, and even grapple with opponents yet still ignore their armor. The shadow demon's rake attacks are thus made as touch attacks. Fleshless creatures, such as certain constructs, are immune to the attacks of a shadow demon.

Immunities (Su): Fire, cold, electricity, mind-affecting effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, energy drain, death from massive damage.

Incorporeal Subtype: Hrava can be harmed only by other incorporeal creatures, +1 or better magic weapons, spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities. The creature has a 50% chance to ignore any damage from a corporeal source, except for force effects or attacks made with ghost touch weapons. Hrava can pass through solid objects, but not force effects, at will. Its attacks ignore natural armor, armor, and shields, but deflection bonuses and force effects work normally against it. A shadow demon always moves silently and cannot be heard with Listen checks if it doesn't wish to be.

Darkness Enhancement: (Ex)
Hrava gains power from being within total darkness. It gains a +4 enhancement bonus to AC, attack rolls, damage rolls, saves, and skill and ability checks in such conditions.

Light Powerlessness: (Ex)
Hrava is drained in bright light (such as the six hours near Peak in the Outlands) and flees from it. Within such light, it takes a -4 penalty to AC, attack rolls, damage rolls, saves, and skill and ability checks.

Skills: (Ex) Hrava receives a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks.

Glib Tongue: (Ex) The first time Hrava tries to bluff a specific individual, it gains a +6 insight bonus on the opposed check.

You see a gaunt, angular humanoid with batlike wings. Its substance, twice the height of a man, is shaped from living shadow.

Hrava is the secret master of Bedlam, gate-town to Pandemonium. It creeps through the shadows and into the minds of the burg's inhabitants, driving them further towards chaos and madness. Lurking deep underground during the day, it secretly commands the town's Sarex militia and manipulates many of Bedlam's influential citizens like puppets. Its goal is to make the entire town slide into Pandemonium, which counts as Hrava's native plane for purposes of banishment spells and the like.

Hrava dislikes physical fighting, and will sink incorporeally into the ground or teleport away rather than risk a direct confrontation with a powerful opponent. It uses blackmail and misdirection to make its pawns fight for it.

Hrava is powerful, but not so powerful that it cannot be manipulated by even stronger and subtler fiends. Rhyxali, the Demon Princess of Shadow, has an eye on it, as do some of the nameless mind-lords of Pandemonium.

This is very nifty, especially considering that I might use Hrava IMC at some point soon, given that I've got one PC touched by the Codex of the Infinite Planes (and Hrava shows up in Cook's series on the Codex).

Per the 'nameless mind-lords of Pandemonium', is that your own idea or something that has been presented before? Pandemonium seems like the red headed stepchild of the planes sometimes it seems.

I missed a reference! I'll have to check that out.

That's my own idea. I'm picturing something like Abyssal or slaad lords (more malevolent than slaadi, but more crazy than evil), but incorporeal and endlessly drifting through the howling winds. For the least of them, you could make them incorporeal phrenic balors, death slaadi, or the like. For the greatest, their madness is indistinguishable from the madness of the plane itself.

I modified the stats above, by the way, fixing some errors.
