Leveling Up Enough to be an Advanced Being

I just had a general question:

Has anyone actually leveled up either as a DM or player any PC with fairly rolled stats from beginning levels all the way up to 20th/20th, and done so by the rules with a balanced DM in a proper and sober Dark Sun campaign? If so, did the PC actually learn somehow the secrets on how to become an advanced being and actually successfully carry through with this? In other words, has anyone ever actually earned, fair and square as I described above, a 21st level advanced being character? If so, has anyone ever fairly and squarely, with all the horrendous preparations and playing time necessary, actually finished their metamorphosis or become a permanent spirit of the land or elemental? I'd love to know, tell me.

I have a PC in my game, a dwarven sun cleric 7/psion 2 who had the process of becoming a Elemental hinted to him by Korgunard (he is alive in my game), and also there have been hints from the Lords of the Sun to him.

His stats were fairly rolled- I made his character and everything was randomly assigned, from class, race. Heck I even rolled the stats (4d6 drop lowest) six times and then rolled a d6 to see where the first number went, then again to see where the next in line went, and so on.

My group has the following characters:

Baranus - male dwarven sun cleric 7/psion (egoist) 2,
Dakken - male human fighter 8/ weapon master 1 (using a modified version of the weapon master made by Khaine - see the Forum archive),
Alak - male mul gladiator 6/ psychic warrior 1 (he is due to level up and I do not know whick class he will take), and
Dark Star - male elven rogue 5/ ranger 3 (name will be in elvish, but I am deciding on a version I like).

If I can ever find the right players and actually keep a game going for that length of time, then yes, I would love to get to this point and would allow it, etc., it would just be very time consuming and the player(s) will need patience as we get to this point of the campaign.

Always wanted to run something from begining lower levels to epic levels, but alas, something always comes up.

By the sound of it, I think he meant using original Dark sun (2nd AD&D) rules.

Personally, in AD&D, the highest I ever got a character was like 9th level (and this was after 2 years of gaming). After that the exp progression was just so wonky that it became nigh impossible to get anywhere.... and the AD&D system was one of those things that I couldn't stand. And I don't like games that are too stagnant. I mean, I like my character to get better, not sit around the same for weeks and weeks, because it is really frustrating to stay at lower levels for too long, and considering that most games don't last forever, it seems just like when you are getting to higher level spells and abilities, the game ends, people grow bored, someone moves away, etc, and the game stops.

I would be very impressed if I ever found someone that managed 20/20 in AD&D, and even moreso for someone who completed the 10 stages of advancement

Right now, under 3.5, my Dark Sun characters are 11th level and still climbing. There is one preserver coming into the game at 9th level. Don't know if he is going to want to try for Avangion or not, but since the rules aren't out yet, I hope he doesn't just yet

I've been playing with the same group for 14 years now, and we have managed to keep 2 groups stable all these years. My favorite, of all times, character is at 38th lvl. But one of us managed to play a Half-Elf defiler/psionicist 'till the 4th stage of the metamorphosis, fair and square. Then it got boring because our DM tried everything to keep the group from succeeding any more. Plus we were pretty much invincible so...yeah we grew bored man, hehe.

Well,
my players are crawling through Deanaghot ascending trilogy....
there is a human defiler/psion/cerebromancer/mind mage obviously aiming to dragonhood, but we are still around 9# level and the charachters have no way to guess there is a process to became advanced beings around.

Shall I help them by introducing rumors about it? Where would you begin to search for one of the most dangerous secret under the Dark Sun?

Not yet; as infrequently as we play, the PCs in my group should be 20th level by the Tricenntenial (2076). :D

I had a campaign go that high, but the players weren't interested in becoming Advanced Beings.
