I asked this question in the Mysteria thread. Where would you place this module in the world of Greyhawk. Way, way, way, back in the day around 1983 my friend had the first boxed set that came with two little books. and a hex map of the settled lands of Greyhawk.

In one of the books its lists the locations of all the Modules for Grewhawk at the time I seem to remember The Keep on the Borderlands being on this list. I have since found out that I was mistaken.

The list of module locations kept on the Canonfire site says it should be on the western edge of the Tors, in the Yeomanry, but doesn't give a specific hex location.

Its not officially part of Greyhawk (being a generic module from the D&D basic set, not part of the AD&D stuff) so there is no 'official' location for it.

Actually, it is part of canon GH, since the AD&D 2e module "Return to the Keep on the Borderlands" was GH specific and placed the keep and its environs in the yeomanry, where you mentioned.

There was an article in Oerth Journal# 11 by Russ Taylor called "Repair to the Keep on the Borderlands" that has notes for placing the module in Greyhawk.

This the OJ is on Canonfire.com in the downloads area.

Well, Russ's document doesnt change the actual placement of the module, IIRC, but it does do an excellent job of fixing the module for both playability at the suggested PC levels and compatibility with GH canon.

It's a good piece of work, and if folks want it by itself for quick download and print, check out Russ's site:

(EDIT) Aha, he did change the location, slightly, moving it a few hexes (on the Darlene maps) over to where the tors meet the hool marsh.

In Return to the Keep on the Borderlands (p. 7), it says,

If you're using the World of Greyhawk setting, the Keep should be located in the southwesternmost part of the Yeomanry, a lordless land of freehold farmers shielded by monster-haunted mountains from the great desert beyond.

The "great desert" is obviously the Sea of Dust, and the statements "southwesternmost part of the Yeomanry" and "shielded by monster-haunted mountains" would place it at the foot of the Crystalmists and in the vicinity of Dark Gate and the Passage of Slerotin. So it is in my campaign anyway...
