#1zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2006 17:41:17 | OK, I was informed a few days ago that Aleena the cleric (from the old "red book" Basic Set) was republished in a Gazatteer in the mid-80s. I was wondering if anybody had any of the old stats for her, or possibly updated her for 3e. IF so, please let me know. I would love to incorporate her into my campaign. |
#2ripvanwormerApr 28, 2006 22:04:18 | The Grand Duchy of Karameikos gazetteer, page 57. She's a 12th level cleric. She wouldn't be too hard to convert. |
#3culture20Apr 29, 2006 0:23:42 | Huh. Didn't she die and the clerics in Threshold could not Raise her? Or was that just an immortal using her shape as a mortal identity? ;) |

#5CthulhudrewApr 29, 2006 1:14:38 | Huh. Didn't she die and the clerics in Threshold could not Raise her? Or was that just an immortal using her shape as a mortal identity? ;) A cleric named Aleena dies in the introductory adventure in the 1983 Basic Rules Set (the Mentzer edition)- she is slain by Bargle. She is in Gaz1, though, with a note that if she was killed in a campaign due to the events of that adventure, then her name should be changed to Aliena (or something like that). Aleena turns up in other products as well, though- Karameikos: Kingdom of Adventure and the PWAs. Oddly, she is married to a Traladaran man in one of the PWAs (I think 1012), but she is noted as having a druid as her beloved in Karameikos: Kingdom of Adventure. Not very cleric-like, and given the tenets of the Church of Karameikos from Gaz1, something that would doubtless lead to her clerical spells being denied her. I think Aleena is perpetually doomed to be the victim of continual bad cross-referencing (first dying, then being resurrected; then marrying and having a different relationship). Get your facts straight, people!!!! In any case, I did a conversion of her for 3E (along with her husband) in the adventure Legend of the Bronze Warrior written by Jacob Skytte and Geoff Gander. (There's also a Bronze Golem and Iron Living Statue conversion that I did there, as well as some other notable NPCs.) I planned on doing Aleena for the Gazetteer NPCs thread (that is so sorely ignored by me lately; sorry!), but was waiting until I did a writeup of the Order of the Griffon Prestige Class first. ( Looking back, I'd probably redo those side encounters a bit in the adventure. I think I had the right idea, but I'd make some changes to them by adding some Ad Hoc Experience rewards and such. The Adventure in the Shackled City where the PCs have to help people in Cauldron as it is falling apart would be a good basis...) [EDIT] Dang- Arcanda beat me to the Aleena/Anielle thing by mere seconds!! |

#7ripvanwormerApr 29, 2006 1:43:04 | There's an Order of the Griffon prestige class here, by the way. I didn't use it because I wanted her to be a straight cleric. |
#8CthulhudrewApr 29, 2006 4:00:53 | Hm- that class isn't quite what I have in mind. That one takes the griffin concept further than seems intended by the description in Gaz1. The class I have in mind is going to be something sort of like the Hospitaler or Maquar Crusader PrC. [EDIT] Oh, I should note a couple of things about my conversion. 1) It was done under 3.0, not 3.5, so there might be some minor changes for that rules set. 2) It is based on her level and age as of 1018 AC, so there will be some differences with earlier (younger) versions of her. |
#9thorfApr 29, 2006 4:42:53 | 0th Level = 6 Zeroth? Sounds like the name of some minor villain... ;) |
#10zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2006 16:08:38 | wow. I never expected so many replies with such great information. Thank you all! |

#12frankthedmMay 09, 2006 14:58:01 | The female cleric in the spandex chainmail, got to love that Elmore art. She could turn ghouls and was killed by a magic missile. |
