Just some slight issues with the Defiling rules as presents in the DS rules from Athas .org. Basically Defiling doesn't really do enough for the wizard doing it to make much sense mechanically. The power of the defiler is limited to the terrain defiled although defiler feats can help this. On table 7-1 of the DS3-r6 download I've more or less merged the spell save modifier and spellcaster level check modifier into a single feature that gives you a bonus or penalty to your caster level depending on what terrain you're in. The rules as presented really help out a Defiler using alot of saving throw type spells but penalise ray spells and most utility and defensive spells- ie most of the PHB spells. To me this makes sense that a Defiler would actively seek out fertile areas of Athas to power their spells.

Defiler min/max build. One of my NPC "Preservers" is in fact a Defiler 5/Myrmeleon5/Cerulean 2. Can't be detected via defiler scent, great liar, and doesn't need to worry about the obsidian orb runing out of juice to hide her defiling. Looking forward to the PCs reaction when they catch a defiled fireball in the back of the head.

He would be busted at that time, though. The raze feats only take effect if you´re defiling, not if you´re using cerulean magic. Of course, he could use Distance Race and blame someone else. :P

She wouldn't care at that point. I liked the Cerulean + Myrmeleon combo.
