what if a warforged(eberron) just came out of the mist in ravenloft? What do you think would happen to it? I mean there is a very good chance that people (common folk) would try and kill it or that wizards would try and study it.

Thanks

I would say it depends heavily on which domain we're talking about. In those of the Western Core (Lamordia, for instance), it will be mistaken at first for some sort of "clockwork man". Once people discover it's sentient, all bets are off. It will probably be a race between the local "scientists" to capture it and take it apart.

In more "primitive" domains (read: more magic, less technology and more superstition), it will scare the natives like hell. The most enlightened of the lot may consider it as some sort of advanced metal-based golem and turn to their old copy of VR's Guide to discover how to dismantle it.

In all cases, I can't imagine any community ever accepting it as a "normal" being under any circumstance (though I could well imagine the warforged coming to rule a remote community through force).

A loner's life is what awaits him, always on the run from pitchfork-wielding natives, monsters, spellcasters, mad scientists and darklords (especially Adam, Hazlik, Azalin, et Easan).

IMHO, a warforged isn't a good (or even decent) PC's choice in RL. As a tragic NPC though, it has its place.

A Warforged in Sithicus might be mistaken for a certain departed Death Knight. Just sayin'. :D

In Barovia, I'M sure every body would try to get him out of the domain... like they almost always do with non-human. ^^

For the record, Barovia isn't racist against non-human, AFAIK. Falkovnia is.

Most of the domains are somewhat xenophobic when it comes to nonhumans-- in Gaz1, p. 27, it's noted "Rural Barovians who encounter such nonhumans are likely to consider them deformed freaks or malicious fey," even if they don't actively hunt them down for slavery as in Falkovnia or a death sentence as in Tepest.

I don't own any Eberron books and therefore have a minimal knowledge of Warforged, but judging from info gleaned from Wikipedia I'd say they have an OR at least as bad as a flesh golem's-- and those are OR 7 according to the RLDMG...

In Lamordia, I think Warforge would be seen as new experiment from Mordenheim or something like that.
And, from what I know, I don't think warforge would be mistaken for a certain Death Knight. From what I saw, they don't really look alike... not even a little. (remeber, this is my opinion and I know very little about Warforged, I know what I saw in the DDO beta )

One of my players, in my future campaign, will be playing a Warforged.

Since the campaign is set in Darkon, his memory were wiped out, and now he beleives he is a normal human (a purebred Darkonese) with a curse: he will never be able to take his armor off until certain conditions are met (these are still quite obscure, since he hasn't yet finished his background... ^_^).

A player in my campaign will actually be doing this starting Friday. I really tried hard to dissuade him until I came with a story how a sort of "unman" could be tied into a variety of prophecies involving a number of Darklords. So basicALly, I went from not wanting the character to revolving a decent amount of the story around him.

One thing that I did hammer home to the player is that he will be ostracized severely (OR 8) and on top of that, the Demiplane of Dread has always had a funny relationship with golems. Golems invariably gain a superiority complex over demihumans, so I have decided that he will have to make a few Will saves here and there to ward off the corrupting nature of the Demiplane of Dread. Of course, these will tie into actvities that (demi)humans have to enagage in that he does not. The DC will be higher if these activities (like sleeping and eating) are preventing him from accomplishing something that he needs to get done quickly. He's also an outlander Paladin, which as we know, creates problems in and of itself. Between those two things combined, Whether or not he'll be able to resist the dark calling is something I am really itching to see.

A good solution but one that will breed two other problems.

a) if he dies, your plot goes down the drain

b) you'll have to take care the other players don't start to feel the guy is the "star of the show"

Actually, in my game(s), I sit with each of the PC's and talk about their characters and their motivations prior to the start of the campaign, so all of them have adequate motivations without "The Unman". The other PC's are "stars" because they all play nearly an equal role in the campaign with their myriad stimuli.

If he dies, the other PC's can go on, and the prophecies either remain unfufilled because this Warforged wasn't "The Unman". Perhaps, however, just the fact that "The UNman" was a catalyst for the gathering of the party that unseats the Main Ne'er do well is the fufillment of said prophecy. Either way, the campaign can continue.

I covers me bases...ARG!
