Does the Gray prevent use of Astral Construct?

Hi,

I cannot recall if the Gray would impede use of Astral Construct. Could someone who knows let me know?

Also, I have a question about defilers and elementals. In the 2E Monstrous Manual for Athas, elementals suffered greater damage from defiler spells and draining. Does anyone know what the effects were? I think lesser elementals were destroyed if they were caught within the defiling radius, normal elementals suffered 1-10 or 2-20 hp damage if they were in the radius etc..

Thank you

Terrors of the Deadlands say that the ectoplasm from astral construct comes from mindscapes, so the answer is no, you can manifest it normally.

Lesser elementals are extremely vulnerable to the magic of defilers. When a defiler casts a spell to damage an elemental, the elemental is affected by the spell as if the caster were 5 experience levels higher than he actually is. In addition, if the elemental is within the area of destruction of a defiler spell, that elemental is immediately destroyed.

Officially, [I believe] it's up to you to determine that. However, I see no problem in allowing Astral Constructs. In my campaign, since I have the Gray as a combination of the Ethereal & Astral planes, it has properties of both. So... Astral Constructs in my campaign would actually be called "Gray Constructs", and I'd probably have them with a smokey-gray color indicative of the realm the substance is from.

This came up in my game, and although ectoplasm technically comes from the astral plane, the fact that they are constructs rather than outsiders (and thus not subject to banishment and the like) was the kicker for me - if you can't "send them back" by the usual extra-planar route, it made it that much easier for me to justify their creation not being affected by the Gray.
