bare with me, it's late and my brain's not on straight :P

an idea struck me -
now this was listed, if I'm remembering correctly, on one of the old inconsistencies threads, but i'm feelin' a bit too lazy to go looking....but anyhoo

on p. 45 of Dune Trader, there's a passage...
"The Clearwaters did not visit Gulg for many years, until the old oba had been replaced by the current ruler."

previous text states this to be "nearly 800 years ago". Of course, as we all know, Lalali-Puy has been in power since her ascendancy to the thrown, following the Rebellion against Rajaat (which was 2000 years ago, by the Wanderer's Chronicle and following products - or 1000 years ago, according to the Prism Pentad and historical references released before the Revised Boxed Set - but that's for another discussion)
ok, inconsistency....big deal - but wait!!! an idea

1) Each sorcerer-king/queen is a dragon - i know we all know this, but pay attention :P
2) Several varients of the dragon metamorphosis exist. This can be shown by the described avian nature of Borys, the Dragon of Tyr, which is differerential to the process undertaken by Kalak - which seems to take on a more insectile nature, shown in the larval form he assumes nearing the end of his transformation - and that taken by Nibenay, which appears to be somewhat more reptilian.

Now, what if Lalali-Puy's chosen metamorphosis takes on the properties of a snake-like form, in that she keeps "shedding" her form?....ie. through each stage of her progression, which as of now was 2, IIRC, she would have shed her form, taking on a new one, and immediately ascending to power in place of her old form. This could even go so far as to explain her making her home amongst the trees - it's within her nature to climb/slither through the branches.

Ok, my tired rant has worn off. Hopefully, when I arise in the morning, I'll find that my idea is not completely ludicrous. :D
Hope you enjoy!!

Not buying it a bit silly squid! :D

If anything besides a faux pas by the author of Dune Trader, the mention of a change in the local oba would be, IMO, an indication that at that time Lalali-Puy changed her personae to something else. Maybe the previous oba was named Inenek and the new one Lalali-Puy, and when she changed she took on even more of the forrest goddess personae than previously.

i actually tried to do a reverse engineering of the spell speed which athas.org uses for the dragon (which i think is pretty schweet). Anyhow, i had no idea what to put the good old oba under. I was thinking more of a green dragon (forest, green dragon0 but this puts it even in a more unique situation. I am not sure weather or not the oba would be willing to sacrifice her looks to become more powerful, or if she would just throw up illusion/transmutation spells to keep herself lookin' like she wants. This is just a thought however.

The snake bit would make sense, and it would be an awesome concept, but then you could have the age old argument of wings or no wings later down the line.

To go along these same lines, i think Abalach-Re was going along something similar to a Wyvern. I am going back in time to a kings age before Free year 1. I like the hopeless atmosphere, and i'd like to have all of the dragon kings.

I do like the idea of everyone's metamorphosis being a little different, in fluff ways. It gives them some extra personality and a little extra variety is always interesting.

Pretty cool idea, Squidfur. I like the idea of individualized metamorphosis for each SK. Kind of represents the fact that they have to do all their research themselves.
