Hi I was wondering since WOTC has the original rights to Ravenloft back, what about the cannon of the White Wolf books verus the original TSR ones. Now Ravenloft seems since it's very creation plagued by the simple fact that no of the other talented creators can agree of the Dark Powers, what it is were it is and how many are out there in the plane of dread.

A nother example of this problem is the fact that two of the Ravenloft official novels aren't considered cannon Enemy with in (about Nova Vasa cursed Darklord and how he ended that way), it's reject because it clashed with TSR official background reguarding Nova Vasa, and Necropoplis beacuse it frankly reveiled too much about the dark powers and there plans.

Until further notice, it is safe to say all WW RL 3e books are considered canon (except may be large parts of Champions of Darkness ;) ).

But I'm not sure I understand what you mean with "Now Ravenloft seems since it's very creation plagued by the simple fact that no of the other talented creators can agree of the Dark Powers, what it is were it is and how many are out there in the plane of dread." since this particular question never was raised as a problem AFAIK. Interpretations suggests that RL is elastic, and the number of darklord is never a definitive number.

Defining exactly who/what the DP are and how many DL are caught in RL has never been a priority of the setting. Indeed, not knowing is part of its "charm" (so to speak).

The day WotC (or whatever company uses the licence) puts forward crystal clear info about those is the day I stop using RL as an intriguing setting.

i strongly suggest to visit the "un official" website of Ravenloft: www.fraternityofshadows.com/

And all 3.5 material are, at time, considered cannon.

It's good that 3.5 RPG books are considered cannon then as a hopeful writer this good, I need to know this so I can write official novels for the Ravenloft setting. There is nothing worse when an Author isn't up to date on the world and setting he or she is writing in,

Now I have to find the White Wolf 3.5 Ravenloft RPG books, since now there considered out of print,

I could tell Ravenloft was gonna get neglected early on by WOTC and S&S so I bought everything as it came out. I can't believe some other worlds (That will go unmentioned) got half the attention they did while Ravenloft seemed to wither and die due to neglect. I found it really suprising that it wasn't more commerically viable in general and more outrage wasn't expressed at its seemingly easy dismissal.

I've noticed minor contradictions but as a whole, I tend to follow the basic PHB and DMG 3.5 time lines as well as the major books from the earlier editions.
