I think the Nightmare Dimension is so neat. I envision it as a Bizarro version of the normal Multiverse Dimension, and like the Mirror Universe of Star Trek. I remember how much I enjoyed the scenes from DC comics set on Bizarro Earth, which was shaped like a cube. Seeing Bizarro versions of the each of the Justice League members was delightful. Likewise, the Mirror Universe Trek episodes were some of my favorite. That's why I favor the widest possible conception of the Nightmare Dimension, such that it has its own inner planes, outer planes, and Immortal hierarchy. Harrow would be the only Nightmare person to become a member of the *normal* Immortal hierarchy.

In 3e, there could even be a "Nightmare creature" template, which adds a reversed alignment (at least along the Law-Chaos axis), darkvision, a bite attack, a poisonous natural weapon, and a devillish/diabolical appearance to any humanoid or animal (and maybe other types of creatures).

Bizarro Glantri is ruled by halfling and dwarf clerics who experiment on human magic users (who are, of course, illegal.)

Bizarro Ethengar is a sophisticated urban trading civilization in constant danger of being conquered by its neighbors because no one fights very well.

Bizarro Darokin is a wilderness of squabbling tribes who periodically ravage their neighbors.

Bizarro Minrothad is ruled by lycanthrope druids and is a set of mini-wildernesses which act as havens for lycanthropes fleeing continental oppression.

Bizarro Five Shires is controlled by evil halflings possessed by the Whiteflame, which fills them with great magical power but also inclines them to hate everything else in the Nightmare Dimensions (as it is an energy form which spills over from the normal Dimension)

Bizarro Thyatis was conquered by Bizarro Alphatia, Bizarro Ylarum, and Bizarro Karameikos long ago because they were too honest and trusting.

Bizarro Karameikos is the home of the powerful Karameikan Empire, a tightly united and disciplined nation noted for its hatred of humanoids. It controls parts of Bizarro Thyatis, the Bizarro Isle of Dawn, and Bizarro Darokin.

Bizarro Atruaghin Clans is a peaceful civilization of urban aesthetes trapped on its high plateau by endless hordes of Darokinian barbarians, Sindhi colonies, and Red Orcs.

Bizarro Ylarum's people have become one of the mightiest naval powers, trading and raiding all across the world. They have mastered the art of making iron ships to make up for a lack of wood. They have gradually ravaged most of their land into desert through fire worship.

Ah...I am glad to see I am not the only one with a Bizarro streak.

Here's one notable NPC from the Nightmare world of Aratsym, also known as Tru:

Nafets Sokiemarak is one wily diabolus. As a CG rebel leader of the White Erne Serfdom, nothing slips by him - especially the nefarious deeds of his cousin and nominal liege-lord, Skirdneh nov Giwdul, iron-fisted LE ruler of the Karameikan Empire, and his dastardly court magician Elgrab the Famous.

I imagine Aratsym as being:

1) Cube-shaped.
2) Its colors being like a color photographic negative - something like the scenes of the Tall Man's world in the Phantasm movies.
3) Any hex maps of it having garish reverse-colored hex symbols (e.g. red Nightmare Forest and orange Nightmare Water).

I assume Aratsym would be hollow in the interior, kept dark by a sun of blackflame, with small pockets of light where floating continents pass overhead. Entirely new cultures and species are placed here, and encouraged to change/mutate. When they are deemed viable, they are placed on the exterior.

Culture20, yes...that is brilliant - Nightmare Hollow World as a cultural incubator. As I was at work today, I'd pondered what the Nightmare HW would be like, but couldn't come up with anything. I would like to see a painting of the blackflame sun.

Any thoughts on what spell restrictions, if any, the Nightmare Immortals would place on Bizarro HW?

In bizarro HW, spells of healing fail (raise dead and ressurection work), as do slow spells. Most abjuration magic also fails.

Tru, also known as Aratsym, is a Chaotic Good male Nightmare megalith, which is the largest known life form in the Nightmare Dimension. He is of the "hollow" sub-race. Unlike their Normal counterparts, Nightmare megaliths are any shape but round - Tru being cubical. He can communicate by not-so-subtle manipulations of the surface of his mantle - known as "earthquakes". The only mortals able to understand this "earthquake speech" are "Truids" :P , and even they do not fully understand the process or its implications. Nightmare Immortals, augmented by magical aids such as telepathy, can establish two-way communication with him. The exposed edges of his mantle are covered with a very thin (relative to his entire size) accumulation of material which has leaked from Negative-elemental vortices that tend to open near, and sometimes inside, his body. These vortices are present because Tru's Nightmare-Prime Planar position is in alignment with four extraplanar Nightmare-Elemental planets (one each of Reekwind, Bitterflow, Blackflame, and Fallowrock). The vegetation and foodstuffs which grow on Tru's surface are mostly poisonous to creatures from the normal Multiverse Dimension. Only plants and animals which are poisonous to the Nightmare natives are edible to Normal creatures.

humm....Bizaro Mystara...That means there is a Bizaro High Master of Illusion. Gaz 3 tells use the 5th power is the ability to go to the Dimension of Nightmares and establish a stronghold there. Could a Bizaro Master be setting a stronghold in the normal dimension?

If _everything_ had a parallel, maybe Harrow was once the Nightmare Dream Master?
