So - I was checking out the Epic Board and came upon this petition a while ago and I was like "Yeah - sign me up for some better Epic Rules!!!"

Well today I was checking it out again and seen this post -

I would like a new Epic rules book, but I think that poster is smoking crack if he thinks it could come out that soon. "Just print it and release it"? Howboutno. Unless you just want the same thing we already have.

I want an epic ruleset that is much better playtested.

Frankly levels 10-20 need reworking because, IMO, they begin to "feel" epic to me around level 12 in power, the way it works now the game has gotten to be not fun and I actualy opt to stop playing that high with the rules as they are now. The higher levels in plain old D&D need to be redone before a suitable epic rule book can be plugged on top of them.

Call me a cynical curmudgeon. :P

I have to agree, too many people I have talked to have said that they enjoy 5-8 level, because it seems like it has the best challange to fun ratio. Anything higher becomes... unsatisfing if you want to have a balanced game.

While I would like a new epic rulebook, if they release one I have a horrible feeling that it would cause the Athas.org Epic bureau to reboot all the work they have done over the last 5 years and push everything that is supposed to be released after the epic dark sun rules get finished even further into the horizon(namely the dead lands manuscript that they have)

I too believe that the SotDL project has priority over an epic levels handbook.

It's not fair to deprioritize one project for another that may be more lucrative

Well seeing as though Secrets of the Dead Lands is an Athas.org project and the Epic Level Handbook is a Wizards of the Coast thing - I do not see how priorities would get messed up. Athas.org would and should just be going ahead with their own material, and if at some further time a new book comes out, then the material they did would not be totally obsolete, it would just have to be revised and updated slightly. It is not like WotC would totally throw out all proir Epic material - they would just give us more with, hopefully, a clearer picture.

Yowza... my bad Kal. Because going to the petition link didn't change my background, I figured it was in the DS forums and not in the general forums.

Shall I assume that SotDL is forthcoming ;)

NP - stuff happens.

As for the Secrets project - well I not know about any date (seeing as how I am not a part of Athas.org and no one has felt the need to tell me) and but I would still expect that the Secrets stuff will b released "sometime" in the future - like the Athasian Equipment Guide (which is another red herring I have been looking forward to). :D
