I just wanted to post a link to a hand-drawn map of Blackmoor at Zeitgeist Games:

It's a nice map but I'm (almost) positive I've seen it before. Where is it from?

This map has been around in various forms - there was a rough version of it available for download from Dave Arneson's website for a long time, and also versions of it by Mystaraphiles, with Mystara-style hexes. Haavard has neatly compiled them at http://www.geocities.com/havardfaa/gallery.html. It seems like I heard that the Real World map Arneson based it on was a local map of a section of the Netherlands' North Sea coast. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

While we're on the topic of Blackmoor maps, Haavard, I enjoyed looking at the map of Blackmoor in the Hollow World (http://www.dablackmoor.com/MMRPG/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=131). I noticed the "Wilderlands" to the south of Blackmoor - would this be the Wilderlands of High Fantasy?

That's where I saw it! Havards' website! (*looking at the new stuff Havard has put up* ;) ).

That's interesting. I've never heard that before but it sure sounds plausible.

I've also heard that Blackmoor was based on some old Duch maps. It would be interesting to know the exact localities it was based off though...

I'm glad you liked the map! Yes, the reference is to the Wilderlands of High Fantasy. That setting meshes very well with Blackmoor so the link to Mystara isn't too far off. I'd be careful about including every element of the Wilderlands setting though, since it has a huge cosmology. For those who don't want the Wilderlands setting included at all, they can easily ignore that one though.

Some other non-canon civilizations were also added to the map; specifically:
Blackmoor (Blackmoor setting)
Afridhi Lands (Blackmoor setting)
Thonia (Blackmoor setting)
Skandaharian Coast (Blackmoor setting)
Peshwa lands (Blackmoor setting)
Bahlor Empire (Vaults of Pandius: James Mishler)
Empire of Sehlomarr (Vaults of Pandius:Geoff Gander)

I also found a few interesting Blackmoor maps over at Thib's site:
