So, I am working on editing my Forgotten Realms character sheet to more represent Dark*Sun, and I got to the languages: are the following all the languages of Athas? I want a complete list, and need help if I'm missing anything.

Trade Tongue (Balician, Draji, Gulgan, Nibenese, Raamin, Tyric and Uriki)
Aarakocra
Aquan
Auran
Dwarven
Elven
Giant
Gith
Halfling
Ignan
Pterran
Terran
Thri-Kreen

Ancient Halfling
Draconic
Draxa
Psurlonese
Yuan-ti

---

So, am I missing anything here? Thanks

Yuan-ti - as far as I know, do nt offically have a place in Dark Sun. I do not recall off-hand if they appear in any of the 2e stuff, but for 3.5 they are not OGC, and as such do not unless they did appear in the 2e material (I think this is a form of circular logic I have going on :P )

Anyway - if you want a yuan-ti like creature - check out my creation, the Ti-diyuan - there is a link in my signature!

The Pimp strikes again!

While I don't think that yuan-ti appeared in any official adventures, they were listed as ''appropriate'' monsters in both the original and revised boxed set. The same hold true for genie, which I don't recall appeared anywhere either. (I've done a silt genie specifically for DS, must post it sometime )

There was also said that yuan-ti were one of the only MM (2e) creature that naturally possessed psionic powers.

Biggest thing to note is that several sources (at least, IIRC) seem to indicate that the trade tongue ("common") is different than the individual city-state languages. I start all my human PCs knowing both common and the appropriate city-state language; basically the racial equivalent of a dwarf starting with common and dwarven, etc. It doesn't come into play often, but can serve as a "secret language" of sorts when in other parts of the world, and of course also factors in for NPC interactions (such as when a Nibanese person goes to Gulg...their accent can pose problems, and speaking Nibenense would be a good way to meet some high templars, quick-like)

Common, as a language, is not universal on Athas, at least according to litterature. Its the "trade tongue" of the Seven Cities region (in fact many more than seven cities, since it also includes several other cities of the dead Champions), steming from the slavery and the trade between cities.

This language is not supposed to be taught in certain places, I seem to recall Eldaarich and/or Kurn. Brax should be able to verify the specifcs on this.

If one goes pass Draj say...twice the distance from Tyr to Draj, then one won't be able to use Common amongst the populations of those areas, per litterature.

Yep. In the Forest Ridge, I think... in some old ruins. They also had a presence underground.

So do video games now count as canon source material?

I had to ask the question.

Dune Reapers come from the video game Shattered Lands.

Yuan-ti seem to me to be an "official" part of the DS setting. They're listed in the original and revised boxed sets under languages, on the list of followers for rangers, under the section on appropriate monsters, on the encounter list, on the reincarnation and snake charm spell lists. That's pretty clear. Burnt World of Athas can't use them because they're not open content, but they've been a part of DS from the initial release.

Dune Reapers come from the video game Shattered Lands.

They also appear in the Terrors Beyond Tyr MC (along with mastyrials, which were also introduced in the PC game, afaik). It's their appearance in DS products that makes them part of the game, not in the PC game. But the PC game is as good a source as any, if you ask me. The more the merrier.
