Master Elementalist summoning question

Maybe this belongs on a different board, but since this prestige class is specific to Dark Sun I figured I'd ask here first:

The Master Elementalist can summon an elemental once or twice per day using a class ability that allows the elementalist to summon an elemental as if using the highest accessible Summon Monster spell. What I want to know is, does the epic spell Summon Behemoth count a Summon Monster spell? If so, does this mean that the Master Elementalist can use the Summon Elemental to replicate Summon Behemoth?

Furthermore, how would Summon Behemoth work on Athas? The epic monster entry for Behemoth lists a Behemoth Eagle and Behemoth Gorilla, which definitely opens up the possibility for other sorts of Behemoths, including ones that might be elementals or creatures from elemental planes. Neither eagles nor gorillas are necessarily native to Athas, so it wouldn't make any sense for Athasian epic casters to summon either one. Obviously, if Summon Behemoth does NOT allow the caster to summon some sort of enormous elemental, it probably wouldn't work with the Elemental Master's Summon Elemental ability anyway.

Since Summon Behemoth is not a summon monster spell, and it's an epic spell which have special rules anyway I'd say no, it doesn't count. If you want an epic summon elemental spell it should probably summon a primal elemental.

Well that clears that up then. Thanks!

(and yes, an elemental version of Summon Behemoth for the Athas setting could be pretty slick).

The answer would be no, you can only use non-epic spells for this purpose.
