Hello everyone,

Has anyone else noticed that the upcoming Worldwide D&D Gameday on Nov. 4th is officially going to be all about Ravenloft? And I quote:

"This November 4th will see the mists part as we travel back to Ravenloft in a celebration of D&D's horror-based setting"

Having been a hardcore Ravenloft player and DM since the original module/Blackbox, all through the Kargatane days and into 3.5e, I have to say this got me severely stoked. I kep thinking: "Could this be WotC's way of gauging interest in the brand, in preparation of a new line of Ravenloft products?" Oh man, I had every finger crossed for this one.

It was fantastic to see Wizards giving Ravenloft its due, especially when all of us die-hards have been worried about Ravenloft being a dead system since Wizards took the rights back from Arthaus.

However, I just went to check it out at www.dndgameday.com, and there's no further mention of Ravenloft there anywhere.

Has anyone else heard anything about what's up?

It's to promote Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.

And how many babies would I eat to promote the idea of Ravenloft becoming an active, supported campaign world again? I'd sure love to see Wizards actually implement the Heroes of Horror ruleset into a great and grand re-publishing of this great setting. I think that's what MOST people active on this board would say, but still... the popularity of this board SHOULD say a LOT about marketability.

That would rock. I haven't been around nearly as long as the rest of you (at least not in Ravenloft) but I totally think it's a crazy-cool setting. I've been trying to scrounge up the books Arthaus put out. I also investigated the website in hopes of finding something more to do with Ravenloft after picking up Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, but I wasn't able to find anything either.

Man I hope they re-release the setting.

More than the suggested daily dietary requirement, no doubt.

Certainly so, sir. Certainly so.

Out of curiosity, what projects might be brewing in the lab of Mangrum the Mad these days?

The adventure also sounds rather frightening and the posters and ads make liberal use of the pictures from Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.

The gameday adventure itself might have a Ravenloft connection or theme.

Curse of Gethin Abbey
An Adventure for 4th-level Characters
by Rich Baker

Caught by a fierce winter storm while making their way over the difficult Gethinnar Pass, the adventurers seek shelter for the night in a lonely temple of Pelor. Unfortunately for them, their refuge is not as safe as it seems. Terror stalks the shadowed halls and brooding chambers of Gethin Abbey. Who will survive?

Encounter Levels: Curse of Gethin Abbey is designed for six characters of 4th level. The default Encounter Level for this adventure is 5. DMs wishing to write their own further adventures for D&D Game Day should optimize them to that challenge level.

See.

Are these gameday adventures available in any way after the event?

I doubt it very much.
So the trick is to sign up for the event of ask for a copy after the fact from someone you know who doesn't mind bending the rules.

AM I just imagining things or have the writers of Expedition to Castle Ravenloft completely abandoned all the hard work that Art Haus did to revive the setting? Fane of the Mountains? Fane of the Swamps? What is this? What does everyone else think of what the excerts have shown?

Nothing in the RPG field or, for that matter, in the professional fiction realm.

I think that the new module is great. With a little tweeking there is no reason why you cannot be transported into the Mists of the Demi-Plane of Dread.

Sadly, too many in the 3.5e crowd seem to love Ravenloft the classic I6 module, but not Ravenloft the campaign setting...

I guess there's no accounting for taste. ;)

I have to say that I hope that's an indication of a vacation and nothing worse. I've always appreciated the fact that an active writer from a favorite setting was also active on these boards, and was willing to help make the books something more than, "Words for dollars, thank you, transaction OVER." Your contributions to the setting AND to the boards here have neither one fallen unappreciated, sir.

Well, thanks, but my last published work was the Star Munchkin RPG, which came out back in 2004, more than 2-1/2 years ago. If I ever did return to professional writing, frankly, it would just mean I hadn't learned my lesson the first time 'round. The closest I might ever come is a few webcomic ideas I've been working on to one degree or another, but I wouldn't put bets on them ever seeing the light of day -- they're just personal projects.

Alright, an INactive writer. No matter; no less appreciated. (Jeez, some guys you have to compliment with a HATCHET. :D )
