A Mystara classic IMHO! If you met it in a dark back alley, which one would scare you the most?

This one:

or this one?

Given those two options and ignoring the different mediums, the first is more horrorifying to me. Primarily the face is more grotesque, while the second one is more identifiable as birdlike. But more than that, is the absolutely disgusting hooklike appendage in the groin area... because of thsoe two differences, the illustration gets my willies a bit more than the figurine.

I still prefer the first version. That was one of my favorite toys (that and the Dragonne- those two toys were some of the coolest, most detailed toys at that time. Not until Todd McFarlane started his toys company did toys get quite to that level of detail, IMO.)

I suppose if the legs on the picture above didn't seem so tiny and anatomically incorrect- and they got rid of that weird looking partial carapace or cockroach wings or whatever is on its back- the version in the picture might be more terrifying. As it is, it looks like something one could outrun pretty easily... plus I just think it looks goofy.

Wasn't the Hook Horror introduced in the original Fiend Folio?

I have a hook horror miniature from Aberrations...it looks pretty good.
