First Castle Ravenloft, now this:

Isn't it about time a Mystara module gets revisited by WotC

I'd be surprised if we didn't see something soon (though not explicitly Mystara, or even having Mystara mentioned, I'm sure). They are doing some other "classic" modules in this manner, too:

Expedition to Castle Ravenloft
Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk
Expedition to the Demonweb Pits

At a guess, I'd expect that an Expedition to Castle Amber probably isn't far off. (Though I hope it is, since I want to be the one to write it, darn it!)

Either that, or an Expedition to the Keep on the Borderlands, or Expedition to the Palace of the Silver Princess, possibly (as those are, IMO, the 'iconic' Classic D&D modules).

Just as long as it's not Expedition to Castle Caldwell. Not that that module couldn't use a major overhaul. ;)

(Again, though- with the exception of ruins of Greyhawk, I don't expect you'll see much mention of specific place names in any of these- Ravenloft didn't mention the Domains of Dread, for instance.)

Return to Castle Mistamere: Clean it out once and for all so that it's the new war-time keep near the town of Threshold.

Or an adventure my brother wrote (I started to make this one into a NWN adventure, but never finished.):
Return to the Caves in the Hills Near Town: An old, experienced fighter who made his name back in AC 980's hires you and a small army of adventurers to carry all the platinum you can carry to some mysterious caves. He's hoping you can increase his fortune with a secret only he knows, but this time the game isn't "double or nothing;" it's "you bet your life."

Expedition to the Lost City?

Seems like a natural choice to me.

Seems like a natural choice to me.

Dungeon has a "Return to the Lost City" in #142, January 2007 called Masque of Dreams, but since I don't own the original B4, The Lost City, I can't say if it's like the original.

--Ray.

EDIT: Started reading it. The module is influenced by the ideas from The Lost City but is not a "Return to" module.

I can (say if its like the original that is). But first let me recommend that you beg, borrow, steal, or download B4 at the first opportunity. It is for my money the best of the "original 5" in the "B" series and probably top 2 on most people's list of the same.

Minor spoilers ahead...

I would say there's slightly more than 'influence' going on. "Masque" can be used as a direct lead-in to B4 (should you happen to own that 20 years out of print module ;) ). I do agree that the tagline might be a bit misleading (or even paradoxical) except in the sense that there is an actual journey involved that leads characters to the buried pyramid itself. Basically for me it was an homage to the classic as well as a what-if scenario in regards to the dungeon itself. The question being: What if the inhabitants of the Lost City got out and came to your home town? Anyhow I hope you folks liked it. I personally got a kick out of the fact it was illustrated by Michael Kaluta the guy who worked on Lucifer for Vertigo.

PS Since "Masque" turned out pretty well I got all inspired and shot off another query to Paizo today.... Something high-level involving the Atruaghin Clans and Atzanteotl.

Nice- I love that series. Can't wait to see the article.

I'd be very interested in seeing what their thoughts are on things. I've had in mind for some time either an adventure or a Dragon style article that would involve the Atruaghin Clans and Darokin, but was afraid either might be considered too "niche" and not generic enough to be able to fit into general campaigns.

Seriously. Don't think. Just write. I just shot off a second something involving Trolls and a land grab in the Northern Reaches. Realistically they (places and people in the Known World) are only place names and cultures and those can be adapted and transplanted. If something gives you a compelling idea run with it and see where it takes you. Fans will see more to it, but other than that it's only my take on the place and really that's hardly "official" for anyone's game table but my own. Besides variety is nice, and who wouldn't want to see an adventure featuring Alphaks?

Just remember if at first you don't succeed try try again.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
