Hello,

I was hoping to solicit some opinions on the published Dark Sun adventures and wonder if any were worth the trouble tracking down.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Freedom is cool. Its a great survival adventure. I recommand adding some intrigue and subplot.

A little Knowledge is just a classic cause its the first adventure, but it need improving.

Arcane shadow run pretty well in the first half but get boring after that. I recommand beefing the templar in Urik to make an interesting escaping fight in the street.

Dagon Crown is a must.

The City by the Silt Sea is good too - I know it is a boxed set, but the adventure in it is worth it.

I'm with Kal on this one. Of the printed adventures, CbtSS is a really good choice.

You could also try athas.org for some excellent downloadable up to date (3.5 edition) adventures.

I´ve run Merchant House of Amketch three times. The plot is terrifying.

I ran dragon's crown, and it was a really good adventure. Long though, and I feel that if I had played the previous adventures with my players that it would have been even better, especially the part where Korgunard dies. They weren't really THAT attached to him, as they might have been had he helped them and vice versa tthroughout several adventures...

No, I meant terrifying. Some people can´t handle the beetles. Others can´t handle the parasites. Of course to make it terrific, you must build an atmosphere of suspiscion and tension, until the grand finale in the ruined city. No self-respecting GM will want to miss out on the faces of the PCs when they land the final blow on Tethrades, the canister falls from his hands and rolls over the edge just beyond their grasp as they lunge towards it. All they hear is the noise of metal striking stone again and again until it is silent. For an instance the wind stops blowing, then picks up. The PCs look over the edge and see the battered and twisted canister on the ground below. They race down with their hearts in their throats to discover that the canister, albeit battered, is intact. And most priceless - the look on my face when they open it to find out what´s inside. ;)

PS: I have only run it in 2E.

Wow -- I thought my players were just weird, since the adventure didn't seem terrified to me. They actually picked up and ran right out of the adventure, abandoned Amtech. Never saw them do that before or sense. They said that the beetles scared them. I guess they aren't the only ones that found them scary.

Now when we played Forest Maker, I had the PCs so scared in the climax that one was literally jumping up and down, one was hyperventilating until we got her a paper bag to breathe in, and the other two were stuttering. (Good setup + good adventure + I picked out a really good soundtrack). But that was the climax ... I had them nervous before that, and one character wanted to leave earlier, but the others talked him into coming along, and poked a little fun of a great big mul being afraid of bathing halfling children in the happy forest :D

Forest Maker, Freedom, Dragon's Crown, and Arcane Shadows were my favorite published adventures.

HA HA!

I've had cool freak outs in games before. I've even gotten so mad I've stormed out of the game and went home.

You weren't there :D

Up to that point, I'd worked on making the game as vivid and intense as I could make it, and after that, I realized that a certain level of intensity was higher than I wanted to take it.

That was years ago, back before my wife and I had kids and responsibilities and such. My DMing is way out of practice now and don't think I could replicate that sort of intensity even if I wanted to.

But if you've been playing for years with a group, let the players build up their characters, and if you've been foreshadowing a climactic game for months ... and if you work in creating the right atmosphere, mood music, really get into character for the main NPCs ... with the right set of players, things can get very very intense. Don't dismiss the power of imagination.

Touché. Still, I just am a Pikachu. I don't call myself that on the boards.

Could athas.org post adventure reviews on their site?
I have seen some of the other offical websites posting product reviews.

One way to find out. Submit it, and see if we put it up.
