I've read a lot of the books and I've just started playing D & D, and maybe just last week started a Dragonlance campaign with my friends. We're set during the events of the War of the Lance. Originally I started with the goal of becoming a dragon rider so I picked the fighter class. Now that I've read more into it I realized that it's gonna take a while before I reach the prerequisites. At least level 10 for my base attack, and I dont even understand the Effective Character Level part. So I was thinking of switching to one of the Knight prestige classes. But I'm not sure where to go. I like the idea of being a dragon rider, but it'll be a while. I'm now at level two. I'm a neutral character, as are the other two members of the party.

You might check out the dragnrider PrC from the Draconomicon. It's a nice alternative, and you can enter it at lower levels.

The Dragonlance version, is a much better one for you to have, IMHO. It might take a while to get but it is worth it.

Try the Beastry of Krynn - it details a faster way to ride dragons

Right now I don't have the Draco book. I guess I'll have to stick it out to be the Dragon rider PrC

That feat in the Bestiary was reprinted in Legends of the Twins if I remember correctly.

Ok another thing. I was given a silver dragon companion by Paladine's command (dont ask; I really dont get it myself) but he's a juvenile. I bought a sadle and all that. Would i still be able to use him, just as a mount?
