Need some ideas

Hey all. I'm looking for some ideas on a starting point for a DL campaign. These are some of the things stunting me, the world/races/organizations have changed so much it's hard to go off the old or create something new..

1. Picking a timeline where the PCs can fit in. I'd kind of like to leave the past, in the past, but the future isn't looking too good either. If I go with the future say just after the WotL or after the WoS what would the next big picture be? As the PCs gain levels I can't just have them killing things forever.

2. It seems that every generation since the Companions has faced an epic war, and I'd hate to be so cliche and I'd hate to push into books and areas that even complete or written about yet.

3. With Takhisis gone and Paladine mortal.. whos going to pull the strings next?

The ideas I've had...

1. Possibly doing an all wizard game, but I don't know enough about the Tower post WoS to know what they'd be doing next.

2. Play as a mercenary group, but as they get stronger then what? This is where I run into a wall I'd hate to start another war.

3. I'd like to bring back the days of dragonriders and dragonlances but not sure again how to facilitate it correctly. Possibly swing the world back around to times rough around WotL possibly with alittle bit of Cataclysm overtone set in, as the people might be alittle scared or reluctant to follow the gods again they might start potentially start following a person and thus begins a second Cataclysm style event, but it just seems like too much for a world that suffered so greatly and still does.

4. Running an all elf campaign trying to push the minotaurs out of their lands or something.

Well for anyone that'll throw their 2 cents in I appreciate it.

The campaign I plan on starting will be sett at 1000 after cataclysm. This gives me enough time to have ancient history and still be able to come up with my own organizations. I can also start a war if I feel like it.

But based on your numbers it sounds like you want to play just after the WoS and not start a world-shattering war. How about a smaller one? Prepare for ethe spoilers

You have right now the war of Solamnia, the knights are being led by Jaymes Markam and they are fighting the goblins of Ankhar.

You also have the Beloved of Chemosh running around in Abanasinia with that Monk of Majere and the Kender nightstalker tracking them down (sorry, can't remember their names right now).

This of course does not mention the fact that somebody (Ms. Weis) is trying to turn Mina into a god, and it sounds like she will be a god of light. So of course Gilean will insist that the balance be maintained so who will the evil god be? The players might even be able to stop Mina from becoming a god by preventing the evil person becoming a god.

We also have the Tower of Istar, oops.... I mean the Tower of the blood sea. I am sure that Nuitari would like to keep all those pesky artifacts in the tower a secret as long as he can. Perhaps the players can infiltrate the tower and report back to the orders about not only the restoration of the tower but also the artifacts. Or they could be working for a clerical faction trying to recover that organization's artifacts from the tower.

We also have the coalition of the sea races to contend with. Forgot what the dark sea elves are called , but they turn into feisty shark-forms which can be real fun to pit against player characters, besides everybody loves a good sea-spanning campaign with pirates and, buccaneers and swashbucklers.

Oh yeah, I cannot forget my favorite idea. Ogres versus minotaurs. We have a name to go with the leadership of the ogres (unfortunately I cannot remember his name right now) who will stop at nothing to see the return of the ogre nation to the brilliance and level of the ancient ogres.

THe minotaurs are trying to consolidate their control on the elven lands. What with the new emperor being the mortal enemy of his queen's dead father, that will be one interesting government, and yeah again we have a sea-going campaign.

From what I keep hearing the dragonlord of S-Ergoth is dead. So I am sure that the emperor of N-Ergoth is considering reacquiring the lands to the south.

I cannot recall anything else going on right now but all of those have at least some reference or something to help with the details
