So I play on a NWN server based in Barovia (( www.nwnravenloft.com fantastic server by the way for any looking to try out online 'loft )) and there's currently a debate going on whether or not Gothic Earth characters should be allowed within Ravenloft based PURELY on canon. I'm arguing that no, they shouldn't be since there aren't any legitimate instances in canon of the Gothic Earth setting even existing in the same Multiverse as the Demiplane of Dread. Any interested in seeing a more up to date arguement and the points therein it can be found at http://www.nwnravenloft.com/forum/index.php?topic=5048.0 . Thanks for reading, and hope to learn if this is all indeed possible or not.

I seem to recall that in Domains of Dread Odiare came from the Italy of Gothic Earth.

While it's obviously not canon, on the old Secrets of the Kargatane site, there was a PC in Stu's campaign from Gothic Earth (I believe from New Orleans circa late 1700's, but I really don't remember. Boy its been a while.)

Characters from Gothic Earth could get caught in the Nightmare Lands, so - yes - there is at least one link between RL and GE.

There's also an interview - somewhere - on the interweb with one of the designers of Masque of the Red Death. Though again I can't remember exactly who.

But in this interview it is stated that the developers basically considered the Red Death to be an exiled Dark Power from the Demiplane. For breaking a law, such as their "hands off" approach to evil. There were no details, and it is utterly unofficial, but there you go.

I am a font of vague & potentially mis-remembered knowledge.

I believe you're talking about the interview with William W. Connors, located here.

That would be the one, though I didn't know it had been put onto the Fraternity website as well. Thanks!

There's also the semi-canon framing fiction of one of the Books of S that has Drigor the fiend emigrating from Ravenloft to Gothic London.

In 3rd ed of MotRD, they say clearly that the Red Death DID came from Ravenloft, but (I'm uncertain about this one) if I remeber well, they said that the travel from GE to any other world (which include RL) was impossible (but not the opposite).

Sounds like they were just re-iterating the principle that PCs in any game-setting using the Ravenloft rules -- whether it's Ravenloft or Gothic Earth -- shouldn't be free to voluntarily pop in and out via plane shift or the like. I doubt it was meant to imply that the DM (or rather, the Dark Powers and/or Red Death, acting as the DM's proxies) can't move characters between the settings, only that they can't make such a transition without gamemaster intervention.
