Ravenloft General Question

Dec 26, 2006 20:26:53 Is ravenloft the same thing or part of the forgotten realms? Wasn't Jander Sunstar a native to Evermeet.

Ravenloft was originally a setting that drew in people & places from all of the other TSR D&D world settings, in what was usually termed 'weekend in hell' game sessions. PC's from just about anywhere could be drawn into the Lands of the Mists, experience the gothic horror to be found there, then could be returned to their original settings (Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Mystara, Dark Sun, etc) if the DM & the players so chose.
I recommend the FAQ over at the Fraternity of Shadows site as a good place to get started on learning the background of Ravenloft, including it's evolution into a setting primarily of native characters now.

Dec 27, 2006 4:11:32 Jander Sunstar was a native to the FR setting that got drawn to RL as described in the novel Vampire of the Mists. Whether he died (for good) there or not is the heart of a debate among RL fans that has been going on for years given he died in the novel but was brought back to (un)life in gaming accessories.

Jan 09, 2007 15:26:25 whats odd is in one of the realms short story books hes in takes place wayafter his time in raven loft so it makes u wonder if he got out or does ravenloft just take copys of the people it takes

Jan 09, 2007 17:22:23 IIRC, that short story was set several centuries in the past, before Jander was taken to Ravenloft. It was only *written* after the original novel; consider it a flashback or prequal.
