Just an idea for race
Antecs: 'They have both compound eyes and compound brains.'
IMAGE(http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/446/antecce6.jpg)
Sees in ultraviolet light, as a symbol uses doubled spirale.

Creatures, something like this:
Antec Soldiers: 'armed with chitin spears and shields'
Antec Snipers: 'shoots with planted weapons'
Mara: 'on enemies sends swarms of magic bees.'

(instead of beeing maninsects like kreens they are more like insectman)
Edited:
Here:
ANTECS: ccg based insectman, native to marshes

There is some significant details lacking here. Like, you know, more about the race in general.

Where is that pic from - it looks sweet.

And as Xlore said - there seems to be a lacking of data and material for your critter -> now there are many of us here on the board that would be willing to comment on a critter concept and such, but we will not do all the work for you.

Cool picture, sounds like a good idea.

Where would you place them in the world? What would their origin be?

One possibility I could see is them being a lifeshaped creation of the Zik'chil (spelling?). Perhaps they captured some Halfings or Humans and decided to "enhance" them by changing them into insects.

Or they could be a live-wood construct or something - kind of a hybred of the nimblewright from the MMII or the FF - that would be cool to - though it may be too "warforged" for some - but I could totally see some unique tree that these creatures are grown from to protect an area or site.

Maybe the carvings would work like the Spellcarved PrC from the Races of Eberron - there was also a cool (artifact level) set of armor that had several runes on it that one could charge with potions to get a specific effect - it was a recent Dungeon mag that had a lost level of Manur Castle (sp).

Looks like something the Kreen Empire created in order to reach the rhul-thaun of the Jagged Cliffs. Could even be that the antec are captured halflings/rhul-thaun (as in Sage's idea) that were altered by the zik-chil for that very purpose (think along the lines of the borg).

It was a hyphen!

I knew I spelled that wrong somehow.

I ummmm...well...began making these things :embarrass

I cannot help myself sometimes! The ideas being tossed around got me thinking and I broke out some books and paper last night and begain designing them.

Anyway - if no one objects to me using the name or some of their suggestions, I will post these fellers sometime this weekend.

This thread got me thinking about the Critter Competition that was on here last year (well, "last year" for a few more hours, I guess...). Has there been any thought to having another one of those?

If memory serves, giving a race a +1 bonus to an ability is considered bad form. Racial ability bonuses come in increments of 2, not 1 (ie: even numbers).

What Mr DarkHelm says. An uneven bonus (e.g. +1) has no certain effect, but is dependant on the base ability score of the character. A character with an even ability score would get no increased ability bonus from the race, but a character with an uneven base ability score would. This is illogical (Why does the race effect one character's ability bonus but not another's?) and is prone to being misused to MinMax a character ("So, I just need to put 17 on this ability, because I will get +1...").
