End of adventure idea

In case you want the action to continue:

I’d like to say I came up with this idea – but it was pulled on my party during the original Ravenloft adventure.

The adventure didn’t end when it seemed to end.

Our DM apparently watched the move The Keep and had the idea that Strahd was in fact trapped in the castle (or Barovia) and one of the holy items (in our case it was the hilt of the sun sword) that traps him.

The idea was to make us think we had defeated him. Take the sunsword out of Barovia and thus unleash Strahd upon the regular campaign world. We had a terrible/terrific time tracking him down several times and finally off'ing him nearly a year later as a recurrent villain.
