Am I Reading This Right?

I am converting a thri-kreen ranger/psi from 2nd ed to 3.5, and I've found he has a surprising number of attacks... assuming I'm reading the rules correctly.

Character is a thri-kreen ranger 7 / psion 11
BAB is +12/+7/+2
STR 18 (+4)
Armed with four singing sticks +4
Has the Multiweapon Fighting, and Improved Multiweapon Fighting feats

The way I read the rules is: on a full attack, he gets the standard three attacks with his primary weapon (-2), then two additional attacks with each "offhand" weapon (at -2/-7).

Thus, his full attack array is: +18/+13/+8/+16/+11/+16/+11/+16/+11 and bite +7.

So he essentially has 10 attacks...

Am I reading that correctly? If not, can you tell me what I did wrong?

Yes, you are reading that correctly. Ridiculous isn't it?

Quite!

... and the Psi levels mitigate his melee potential. I can only imagine a ranger/psy warrior or gladiator!

Thri-kreen fighter-types were pretty ridiculous in 2e as well... :P

As someone pointed out in another thread awhile back, although the sheer number of attacks is pretty bad, from a damage standpoint it's not nearly as bad as it sounds - when you figure out the odds of hitting something with an AC appropriate to your level, average out damage, etc. then someone with Power Attack, a 2-H weapon and high strength is going to be doing just as much damage as you are, if not more. A few months back I had epic-level PCs in my game, one a psiwar/gladiator with uber two-weapon fighting and another gladiator/cleric who used a 2-h weapon with power attack, and not only did the gladiator/cleric regularly do more damage (in most cases, a *lot* more damage) but they also got through their attack routine in 1/4th the time (if not quicker than that) than the other character. With a thri-kreen the damage will go up, of course, but still - it's really not as bad as it sounds.

Except if the Kreen is a Rogue or uses elemental based weapons or has other bonus damage to add via rage or favoured enemy etc. We had a level 5 Kreen rogue who was a scout type. throw in haste and weapon finesse due to Kreens dexterity and you can have a stuoid amount of damage on a full attack. Kreen at ECL +1 are to powerful while the XPH has them at ECL +2(with Psi abilities) which limited their effectiveness alot more IMHO. Not to many people play Drow due to ECL +2 and Kreen seem more powerful than them for most classes and at ECL +1 excel as Fighters/Rogue/Scout/Barbarian/Rangers.

You have to take their racial hit dice into account as well.

We had level 10 pcs and one of them was a Kreen rogue lvl 7. he managed to hit a Half Giant 6 times in one round for 24d6 sneak attack+ the weapon damage as well. The party also had a Halfling and their favourite interrogation technique was basically "Talk or become dinner" while the halfling measured them with knotted cord and the Kreen drooled on them. Surprisingly effective as most sentient beings don't want to be eaten alive;)

Argh didn't even think about the rogue thing...guess I know what type of assassin to send after my PCs in an upcoming game, then. ;)

Funny, I always thought that you could only do one attack with sneak attack per round.

No, as long as you meet the conditions for sneak attack, every attack you make is considered a sneak attack.
