Anyone one have any suggestions on how to canonically fit the Knight of the Raven PrC from EtCR into RL? The two options I'm considering are as follows:

-The knights were driven out during the Terg occupation of Barovia and didn't return till Strahd reclaimed the land.

-The knights are the descendents of the few surviving guests and servants that escaped being slaughter at Sergei's & Tatyana's wedding.

These can be better deveolped I'm sure, but I'm open to other ideas and suggestions.

I use them as a lost branch of the Church of Andral that was wiped out by Terg invasion now surviving only in a few secret texts kept by thr Ravenkind leaders of the church (there no actual active members currently active, only what little information survives in the secret texts).

Works very well...

Funny, thats how I intoduced the alternate lightbringer class abilties. That being thru lost ancient texts that detail on how to effectively combat the undead.

Personally, I plan on using them as the militant members of the Keepers of the Black Feather secret society. Makes sense given their name...

Glad someone posted this cause I love that PrC.

Any chance someone has a link to where I can find it on line?

Has anyone considered limiting this PrC to being available to only one character at any one time due to how powerful it is? Meaning, that there can only be one knight of the raven in existence at anyone time? As much as I hate to use this analogy, but think along the lines of the slayer from the Buffy TV series.

Reason I ask is that I'm concerned that multiple PCs would be tempted to enter into the PrC due the low PrC requirements. A party of KoTR would be a DMing nightmare.

Well, if you consider it's "given" only to members of a secret society, then it makes sense to restrict it only to members of said society. I doubt the Keepers of the Black Feather would recruit a whole adventuring team since it would mean a huge security risk. Normally, they would induct only one person (a paladin or a ranger would be best), if even that.

It's not found online. It can be found only in the EtCR accessory.

Point taken. For now, I'm going to treat it that only one can exist at any one time. Basically treating it like the mantle of a masked hero/vigilante being passed onto a younger generation (i.e. Zorro, Lone Ranger, Dread Pirate Roberts, etc...).

That works well too. Hmm.. actually I like this idea so much I might just steal it ;)

i kind of hate to suggest this, as it has been done to death in movies/books/tv shows, but why not do it like the reclusive/hidden/secrective master and apprentice idea?
the master i would make up to be an epic lvl character with a good rating in some sort of professional skill that would be an cover identity, maybe make the master an expert scribe. The master scribes great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandparent could have could have been a scribe that was missed during the counts killing spree
the apprentice could be a new student sent from another village/city to learn the scribing skill
this way "there would always be two, a master and an apprentice"
just a thought

Isn't this what I've more-or-less already proposed minus the specifics???

mostly yes
but im thinking more like having the master be more of an active participant in the missions/adventures, so this way the aprentice is not alone or the only KotR around
less of a solo crusader, more of a team working together
