There is a poll at Paizo.com, the company that publishes both Dungeon and Dragon magazines, asking what everyone's favorite setting is. So far Greyhawk was been in the lead, until a few minutes ago.

The Link

Show 'em what we're made of, it only takes 30 seconds to create an account. ;)

Call me curious but did you vote for GH? If I ask, that's because you have also been encouraging Mystara and Ravenloft fans to vote for their own settings. Thus, it feels a bit strange to see you mourn the fact that GH is no longer in the lead...

To be 100% honest with you, I voted for Greyhawk, after finding out about the poll at Candlekeep, a Forgotten Realms site. They were encouraging all their members to go over there because Greyhawk was in the lead.

I wanted to even the playing field, so I posted on the three forums that I like that had no votes (RL, Mystara, and DS). At the time, GH was WAY ahead. Then I noticed FR caught up, and posted the link here as well.

Greyhawk is, and always will be, my first love.

* I love FR too BTW, I just thought that posting a link on an FR-specific forum was 'cheating', so I gave everyone a fair shake.

Edit: Damn, just checked the poll. RL is a vote behind Eberron, but everyone else I like is still beating that EBIL setting.

I'm torn.

I don't have any one favorite setting. I only like the Big Three: Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, and Dragonlance (not necessarily in that order).

My first dive in D&D was in an idillic and rustic village called Shadowdale...

Faerun grabbed my main love since then.

Then a woman named Goldmoon draw my attention and the world on which she dwelled was one named Krynn...

Besides all,my favs fictional worlds are the Forgotten Realms(and its spinoffs like Maztica and Zhaccara), Dragonlance, Greyhawk, Birthright and Mystara in that order.

Sorry to be a bit fatalist, but Greyhawk wins on this poll for the simple reason that Paizo has been catering to Greyhawk fans. While it is true they see surges in sales whenever Greyhawk material is published, I have a feeling that is simply because Greyhawk fans are longing for something, anything they can get their hands on to detail their setting. I doubt Greyhawk material would get as much demand from Paizo if WotC had a Greyhawk line as well-supported as FR.

Of course I could be wrong. Maybe FR is "the popular setting" because it gets so much support, but I think there are a lot of factors. Nevertheless, Greyhawk is and always will be my favorite for countless reasons and I voted Greyhawk even if the poll is statistically worthless.

To be thoroughly fatalist, that poll has less than 500 replies. A book needs to sell around 15,000 units. So unless WotC decides that everyone voting for Greyhawk on that poll intends to buy about 500 copies of each book, I doubt they will consider it "conclusive" support for putting out an entire line.

It's a Paizo Poll, not WotC's.

You want to impress upon WotC? Pre-order or buy Expedition to Castle Greyhawk when it's available. Buy as many books as you can fit in that Scion of yours. Tell your friends to buy it in bulk.

Why would I bother doing that, except perhaps as a joke?
For a GH line to thrive it needs more than a few hundred overeager fans buying 10-50 copies of each book released. That would be a waste of money, a waste of effort, and a waste of time.

Then don't expect WotC to make more Greyhawk. It's already retired.

As opposed to expecting some small group of people to buy a dozen copies of every single product?
Again, if you want to buy out the print run, feel free. I am not interested.

When was that determined?

A long time ago. Thats why the GH forum is a subforum of the "umm, I guess some folks use this stuff still" forum set instead of having its own forum set like the FR, Eberron, and other "active" projects.

Then what ARE you interested in?

Bet they won't make it if sales of EtCGH is low (i.e., testing the water).

I'm interested in Greyhawk as a viable product line.

What are you interested in? A club of 100 people who buy 200 copies of each Greyhawk title released each? As I said, have fun, I'm not interested in joining.

Nah, I'm interested in motivating hardcore GH fans.

Buying 20 copies of a product doesn't mean you are a hardcore fan, it just means you have a surplus of disposable income.
I don't need more than one copy to "prove" my obsession with the setting.
