New PrCs in the works - looking for ideas

Hey all -

I have a few new PrCs in the works and I was wanting to get some ideas from you all on what you think these classes might need. All of these PrCs have been started, but I am looking for...something. I do not know what, but I will know it when I see it.

I will not go into a lot of detail on what I have for them right now - I would like to see what you all propose first.

Here we go:

High Templar - I am planning on using my templar domains for this class, granting them at least one additional domain and maybe improving their sigil.

Noble Scion - so far I have based this PrC kind of off the idea of using the Favored in House feat from the Eberron Campaign. This is not a powerhouse PrC, but something that a straight classed Aristocrate could qualify for at around 4th to 6th level.

Member of the Order (Epic) - masters of psionics - I could see granting them some bonus epic feats and I was also thinking of maybe something along the lines of the Spell Pool that the Guild Mage has.

Like I said - this is just some general stuff I have been working on - I would like to know what you all think too before I go and do these things fully.

(and yes Dirk - the Crystal Adept will be completed soon - promise)

Thanks

The Order prc could perhaps have some psionic detection abilities, and some neutrality-related abilities, since it is pretty much what Dragon Kings say they do.

Don't know if high templar needs an actual PrC. To me, it would just be a title given to a high level templar of a SK. Levels in a SK's specialty PrC (i.e. black cassock, yellow robe, etc...) would also denote how high they were in any said city-states' government.

Anyhow, those are my two bits.

Well - think of it in terms with the Arch Psion, Archmage, and Hierophant. The High Templar is the most advanced practitioner of templar magic and in the closest favor with their respective monarch. Therefore they are able to have access to abilities and powers that dwarf those of most any other templar.

The Black Cassock and the Yellow Robes serve a purpose - but it would be the High Tempars who would be running the show with only their SK to answer too.

To use 2e Dragon Kings' logic, a SK wouldn't want templars to gain to much in the way of advanced divine power. Hence the lack of 2e templar progression after 20th-level. With that said, a templar has the option of taking levels in the hierophant PrC If they want access to higher divine magic.

Ponder this.Tithian was given the title of high templar by Kalak in the Prism Pentad. He didn't exhibit any increase in spell or divine ability, just an increase in status and privilege. If your PrC focused on special uses of secular authority and charisma based skills I'd be more open to the possibility of an actual high templar PrC.

But hey, I'm just one guy with a turkey fetish

Why listen to me?

The Order prcl is a great idea - I'd love to see an epic prcl along these lines. And using the spell pool model is also a good move. You might also want to consider a sub-epic prcl for those who are petitioning for membership in the Order (such as for students at the Nexus or those being primed by members of the Order scattered around the Tablelands - there are a couple of references along those lines in some of the books).

Noble Scion is also interesting as an idea. What sort of things do you see it as being able to do? Have you considered looking at the Noble base classes in the Dragonlance campaign setting and the Conan ogl setting? Both have some very interesting mechanics that you might lift for your prcl.

As for High Templar, the only issue I have with it is that it might be very limited in how many people can have access to it. I presume that there would be only one High Templar per Bureau in each city, so that's a very small group of people. General design philosophy prestige classes suggests that you don't need a class for a tiny group of people. It needn't represent a huge group, but there should be an appreciable amount of members to make it worthwhile having a class for. Otherwise a feat tree might be a better way to approach it (Bureau Exemplar -> Templar Commander -> High Templar or something like that).

WHat we need is a PrC that really focuses on the straight-up harsh, down and dirty beat-fown of one's foes. One with lots of combat-related abilities that work like or enhance fighter-type feats. Maybe something that boosts power attack damage in a manner similar to a frenzied berserker, while giving one the option of either diminishing or increasing the AC penalty of Karmic Strike, and then add something just brutal (when used in combination with said abilities) like being able to adjust your threatened area from 5ft to 10ft and vice versa as a free action when wielding a spear or polearm, and possibly being able to use said spear or polearm as a double weapon when using the shortened threatened area radius, and while doing so, being able to make AoA as if you had the Dual Strike feat.Think about the possibilities! Make the PrC! ANd then name it something cool like The Brutal Impaler, or He Who Stabs the Sh*t Out Of You With A Spear. :pile:

Jon loves those guys!

Jus the other day he was like "Kalthandrix. I think that the Hack'em Masters rule and they are the coolest idea that anyone has ever had! I think that they should take over a city-state and rename it the State of Hack'em, and the Sorcerer-king could be Slice'em. King Slice'em could be a immortal killer who is like all decked out in blades and stuff with like the ability to make a flensing strike that shears all the targest skin from their bones and then animates them to be his undying servants."

I was like "Whooow Jon! I like your energy here, but the Hack'em Masters would never set up in a city-state. They are like a swarm of locust that swoop in and devouer everything in their path and then moves on to new lands. I might be able to hook oyu up up sometime with a stated out version of some of them, but for now I think we need to focus upon some of the other projects that are needing to be finished first."

While I had at one time wanted to write an epic PrC for the Order, other projects ;) and events have kept me from doing so.

The only idea that I can give you about that is the name that I had chosen myself for the PrC: The Cerebral Master. Hope you like it, and if you use it, I'm sure you'll do justice to it.

Actually, I was looking through the list of available PrCs, and I noticed a niche that hasn't been getting a lot of attention.
Rangers.
Sure, there's the beast hunters and the Master Scout, but what I was hoping for was something that focuses on the stealth aspects of the ranger.
I like the Master Scout, but I don't want to take levels in any other class because I'd lose out on things like Camouflage and HiPS.
Perhaps something like the Desert Nomad. Focus on the ranger's stealth skills, give them increased speed or something, not like the Master Scout's party-bonus ability, but as a personal speed increase, not unlike the Barbarian.

The APX2 might have some material in there to soothe your ranger wants - as soon as SOME people get around to putting it out

Er, crap - you mean I wasn't supposed to carry on my life in peace *before* doing "it"? Whoops. My apologies to all who I may have negatively impacted with this lapse in judgement.

Of course not silly - you are supposed to do my bidding in all things first! All other activities and desires you may have once hand have been supplanted by MY needs and desires.

Now honestly - how could you have been so selfish as to do other things before doing my stuff. Geeze!

PS: New shoes are awesome! I got this new spring in my step today--the like of which I have not had since I burnt down that little runt village of Ogo!

Nope - Sketchers. They have a really thick sole and deep treds - great for head stomping and leaving one's mark on the faces of your enemies!

Update-

I am like 75% done with the Member of the Order PrC - this one will also include a stated out NPC as well, for your gaming goodness.

I am hoping to have it done in the next day or so - and as soon as it is finished, I will post it.
