Ruhl-Than Sage inspired these items with his drawings of masks that can be found here. Now we just need pictures for the others elements (and paraelements ;)) Enjoy!

FYI, I'm using the new item format from the Magic Item Compendium. Do you see Bruno the amount of work that would be needed for converting it all?

Mask of the Elemental Factor
These ceremonial masks are often worn by cleric consorting with creatures allied to their element, or during the rare ceremonies assembling many believers.

Mask of the Air Factor
Price (Item Level): 3,300 Cp (8th)
Body Slot: Face
Caster Level: 1st
Aura: Faint; (DC 16) transmutation
Activation: — and full-round (command)
Weight: 1 lb.

Lacquered in multiple colorful hues, this horn mask is shaped like a stylized avian face.

While wearing this mask, you gain a +5 competence bonus to Diplomacy checks against creatures of the air subtype. This is a continuous effect and requires no activation.

When you activate the mask, and if you are a cleric of air element, you may create a small amount of holy air as if by a bless element spell. This ability functions three times per day.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, bless element.
Cost to Create: 1,650 Cp, 132 XP, 4 days.

Mask of the Fire Factor

This black mask, representing a fire spirit, is carved out from a piece of burnt wood, highlighted with bright red paint.

Here is my two bits - but the items are so similar to each other, why have 4 seperate entries? IMO it is a practice of redundancy and could, and should, be avoided. One entry with a brief description of each would suffice.

That being said - I like them - nice a simple with room for custimiziation for higher ranking priests.

I agree with you here. It is simply that the new format doesn't goes well when applied to similar items with different apperance, or with only a small change (here the element worshipped). That gives many similar entries.

Thanks. These, as done now, are accessible to the higher end of the low-level plus mid-level characters, but could easily be designed with higher characters in mind, especially if powers could be gained by devoting a spell slot... hmm, need to think about that.

Why not make a least, lesser, and greater version of the masks? Maybe giving +2, +5, and +10 and with increasing caster levels? This way the item could appeal to several PC levels...

One note - why is the activation for the bless a full round action? IMO it is just like the spell, and it should only be a standard action. Another reason to reduce the activation time is that this makes it less appealing to use because of the long time - which for a command word activation seems long to me.

Also - I like bruno's idea with the least, lesser, and greater I think you could keep the different power versions of the item in the same block too I think.

Suggested added powers - elemental resistance to specific element, the ability to recall an element-based spell just cast like a pearl of power, the ability to create element and/or gate in said element kind of like the 2e clerics could do.

Just some ideas Meth

In fact, bless element (see DS3) has a 1 minute casting time, so you get an advantage here. I didn't want to reduce it too far down though. Bless (see PHB) does have a casting time of 1 standard action, but those are 2 separate spells.

About the other ideas, I find them very good, but perhaps more suited for other items. I wanted to keep a certain link between the mask powers (here the Diplomacy bonus and the ''benediction'' of an element, two thing that could be done with speaking).

I'm more for the lesser and greater versions of the masks, but those would need separate entry with the same stats block as seen in MIC.

Woops my bad - I thought it was the bless spell.

I still need to get the MIC - darn comic books have been eating up all my spare ceramic pieces!!!

Are you sure? I had the impression you didn't need because of this item
