You've listed the 1st Generation Dray as Medium Monstrous Humanoids, but in the City by the Silt Sea it says:

No, it means that to prevent a prototype first-generation dray from suffering mutation and then perishing, it needs to be made into an undead (like Absolom). This was not an issue with the second batch of first generation dray, which merely mutated but did not die (and were subsequently banished by Dregoth).

(Also, their type has been changed to dragon in the last edit, but I don't think that this has been released yet).

Ahhh, I see what you mean now.
So what happened to the Undead Dray then?

That's a good question. Perhaps a special undead template, or maybe a "base race" for the undead dray would be worth creating?

Otherwise I'd assume that dregoth turned them into one of the standard undead types, probably a thinking zombie (since that'd be the easiest to do).

Fluff can take care of this. Apply whatever undead template/monster to the dray, and say they are from that specific generation. No need to stat out that generation as a race.

Canonically speaking, the only real mention of an undead proto-dray is Absolom, who is statted out as a unique creature. CbtSS states that Absolom was the first dray who survived beyond his creation (due to Dregoth making him undead) and notes that all the others mutated and died.

You can always alter this, of course. A simple method would be to do what was suggested in the first post and change the dray's type to undead. Simple as that. Or you can go further and use other templates like kaisharga or whatever, or build a unique type from the powers and weaknesses in Terrors of the Dead Lands.

(I had also planned to write up a dray transformation template - to represent humanoids who have been turned into dray - but I ran out of time before the birth of the most recent Kamelionet last year. I have a bit more time at the moment, and am running DS again, so maybe I'll give that a look...)

I think Pennarin's suggestion makes the most sense of all.
Luckily, my PC isn't even close to high enough level to take on, well... Anything yet. :P
