I started my new campaign in Les Hiboux, midway between Glantri City and Vyonnes (Nouvelle Averoigne).
So I had a look at babelfish to discover "hiboux" meaning...
And I discovered a very interesting think: hiboux in French means... owls!

So, Les Hiboux means The Owls.

I'm thinking about introducing some Hsiao in Glantri... I'm only worried about religious view of Hsiaos and Glantrians... I think it's hard to coexist.
Or they could be living in Les Hiboux area before the village foundation and than... humans turned them away. Maybe they escaped near Lhamsa, where their religious concepts are more tolerated.

I like the idea of Hisao in the Les Hiboux region! Hidden outcasts as you suggest is a possibility. Another option coud be to make these into Hsiao mages, using m-u spells instead of Cleric ones.

Just a thought.

Hsiao mages.... as in the Walt Disney movie: Merlin owl familiar could easly be a Hsiao magic user.

Interesting... but I'm not so sure.

Hsiao would be great; The Glantrians dislike clerics, but love magical monsters, and the Hsiao aren't clerics as such (any more than any cleric-spell casting monster is; no temples, no calls for organized worship, etc). I could see the people of the area as very proud of their Hsiao benefactors.

Or, there could just be a lot of wild giant owls in the area, and Hsiao are hiding among them, helping humans discretely.

That's what I was searching for! I like it!
I feel Glantrians don't hate only clerics, but they hate (and fear) religion. Religion is a major crime in Glantri. That's canon. At least in Gaz time (1000 AC). After Wrath of the Immortals I think Glantrians started to accept more clerics, but not religion. They accept clerics only for their curative magic, but religion is anyway in opposition with Glantrian official philosophy.

But Hsiao hiding among an endemic population of giant golden owls is a grat idea: they help local humans, such as woodcutters, trailmakers etc. And they try to help people comprehend religion...
I like it: that is!

Are you going to do a writeup of this region for us Arcanda?

I'd sure enjoy seeing one. I think this is a great idea to place a Hsiao population at this location.

Always loved the Hsiao. In fact all of the critters from Tall Tales are great. Do you think the region might have other woodland beings, what about Leprechauns? Maybe ran away from Crownguard...
