Here is a new golem that I brewed up for your PC smashing fun.

Please enjoy with my compliments and let me know what you think.

Thanks

Golem, Tyr-storm
Skimming off the ground and rushing swiftly toward you is a creature that is literally a living storm. Streaks of lightning flash across its body which is formed from whirling clouds agitated by tempest force winds. Small glints of blue glass can sometimes be seenbetween the chaotic shifting of the cloud-like flesh of the creature.

Magic Immunity (Ex) A Tyr-storm golem is immune to any spell or spell-like ability that allows spell resistance, except fire spells. A magical effect that deals fire damage slows a Tyr-storm golem (as the slow spell) for 1 round per caster level. Any lightning based attacks acts as a haste spell for either 1 round per die of damage normally rolled, or it also can break any slow effect on the golem. In addition, wind-based spells that target the Try-storm golem enlarge the construct (see enlarge person) and also heals the golem 4 points per caster level of the spell.

Wind Walker (Ex) A Tyr-storm golem never touches the ground as it moves – instead they have the ability to constantly hover 1 foot off any realitively flat surface of any solid or liquid. This also grants them incredible speed and mobility when faced in combat. However, at distances higher than 1 foot above any surface, the golems speed is reduced to 20 feet per round.

Crushing Hold (Ex) If a Tyr-storm golem hits an opponent with both slams in a round, it will immediately start a grapple as a free action. If the golems successfully grapples that opponent, it deals 1d8+12 points of bludgeoning damage to them.

Tempest Assault (Ex) Any creature that begins its turn while it is being grappled by a Tyr-storm golem suffers from the effects of the raging storm that makes up much of the constructs form. The held creature takes 3d6 points of electrical damage and 2d6 bludgeoning from debris that swirl within the creatures body.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Tyr-storm golem is a litteraly a force of nature barely held in check – lethal and unrelenting in its savagery when encountered.
Used as bodyguards and guardians by those wizards who have come to take up the study of the Cerulean Storm and harness its rare elemental power, these creatures follow their creator’s direction without thought. Unlike most of its lumbering brethren, a Tyr-storm golem is increadibly swift – a feature that the creature capitalizes upon when engaging its opponents.

Strategies and Tactics
A Tyr-storm golem utilizes its speed and raw, elemental power to take out foes. Unless directed otherwise, the golem will focus its attacks on one individual until that opponent is dead. The golem takes a straightforward approach to combat, relentlessly smashing opponents and grappling with smaller foes whenever it has the opportunity.
While the golem cannot actually fly, the clouds and immensely powerful winds that make up its body allows the Tyr-storm golem to continuously hover off the ground. It can also ascend or decend to different heights, though doing so at a much slower rate of movement than usual.
These unnatural creatures are resistant or immune to most attacks and magic, though fire and weapons crafted from drake ivory seem to be most effective when dealing with a Tyr-storm gloem.

Sample Encounters
Tyr-storm golems must be placed and positioned in a location. Once placed, they do not leave the area unless instructed by their creator.
No One Home (EL 10): An empty domicile sits on the outskirts of the Cerulean Storm. Inside a lone Tyr-storm golem stands guard outside of a locked door. Any creature that steps into the creatures sight that does not know the password is relentlessly attacked.

Ecology
Beings constructs, Tyr-storm golems have no need to eat, sleep, or breathe. They can exist whenever their creator places them. They have no natural prey or predator, but attack whatever and whenever their instructions direct.
Environment: As constructs, Tyr-storm golems are very rare and realitively new. Because their unique construction involves the Cerulean Storm, these creatures are most often encountered there with their creators.
Typical Physical Characteristics: A typical Tyr-storm golem is at least 10 feet tall and weighing 900 pounds, though some have been seen measuring upto 15 feet tall.
The body of this golem is comprised of a blue-glass skeleton over which is a “flesh” made up of dark storm clouds. Gusts of wind and lightning contained within those clouds cause the Tyr-storm golems body to be in a constant state of motion. They usually have no facual features aside from to deep-set eyes that are nothing more than flashing sparks of blue-tinged lightning.
Alignment: A Tyr-storm golem is mindless as any other golem, existing only to carry orders. It is always neutral.

Typical Treasure
Tyr-storm golems never have treasure, but they might be used to guard treasure or other items of value.

Tyr-storm Golem Construction
A Tyr-storm golem is very difficult construction to craft. It requires a 10-foot tall blue glass skeleton crafted from special sands that have first been treated with rare oils and unguents that cost 12,000 Cp. Creating the golem’s glass skeleton requires a DC 25 Craft (glass making) and a DC 25 Craft (sculpting) check.
CL 16th; Craft Construct, fly, geas/quest, control weather, limited wish, caster must be at least 16th level and have the cerulean casting class feature; Price 125,000 Cp; Cost 62,500 Cp + 5,000 XP.

Tyr-storm Golem Lore
Characters with ranks in Knowledge (arcana) can learn more about Try-storm golems. When a character makes a successful skill check, the following lore is revealed, including the information from lower DCs.
Knowledge (Arcana)
DC Result
25 A Tyr-storm golem is a kind of construct that has only recently been sighted in areas arounf the Cerulean Storm.
30 A Tyr-storm golem is know for grappling an opponent and using the churning storm that is it’s body to kill its foes.
35 Tyr-storm golems are immune to most types of magic damage and are used generally as guardians. They are somewhat vulnerable to fire attacks and weapons carved from rare ivory.

Have you considered a Tyr Storm elemental creature?

I have - in the creation of the new AB class I am working on. I really think that a Tyr-storm elemental would resemble a corrupted rain paraelemental with the air incarnation template applied to it or vise-versa. The alignment would be shifted to NE though.

I will think about it some more and see what I can come up with.

Question - does anyone think that the CR is right? I kind of used the Iron Golem as a 'power level indicator', but am unsure if the CR is right for this beast - so if someone used the Tyr-storm golem, let me know how it worked out for you, please.

Thanks.

I question the drake ivory. What is the connection? Any drake, or only rain, water, or air?

Drake Ivory because of the elemental connection that the drakes have - I thought it more fitting that the normal adamantine DR.

Other than that reason, that is it really - just something to make it stand out a bit more.

One question I was thinking of is golems resistance to psionics - if a golem is only effected by magical lightning, would a psionic electrical attack work the same - or if they benefited from a specific elemental-based magic attack, would psionics do the same?

No - I was going to make a Horse Golem - because we both know how much Onurb loves them!

Nice, but I have one suggestion.

Some golems have a chance of going berserk (1% cumulative chance per round of flipping out). What if in the case of a tyr-storm golem there's a chance that Tithian can exert this will and posses it.

I don't know...I will be having some material about Tithian's influence on the Cerulean Advent AB I am working on, but I will have to think about allowing him to take control of one of these guys.

I feel that it would make more sense for Tithian to control a golem than it does for him to control an epic level being.

I'll reserve judgement till I actually see your new advance being write up however (which will be nothing short great I'm sure).

Well - as far as I have seen, only Clay and Flesh golems with the Berserk feature have the chance to break free - but my sources are limited here at work and there could be more, but I think I will keep it so these guys do not break free.

I will on the other hand make the Tyr-storm Elemental that I am putting together have the chance of breaking free.

Oh and I do not hope I suggested that Tithian will be able to "control" the Cerulean Advent - becuase that will not be the case. There will be some influence, but mostly in th form of fluff and some abilities (ie the Cerulean Advent will constantly hear "voices" in the winds - the idea came from the adventure Whispers in the Storm adventure - but nothing is final right now.

I feel pretty good about the make up of the new AB right now and hope to be able to give you all something that you like.

Just thought I'd offer a suggest. Seemed to make sense that Tithian would secretly leak out the basics of creating these guys in order have them do his bidding (i.e. helping him escape).
