Title says it all - Dragonlance has gone back in-house to WotC. I wonder if something is in the offing. Also makes me wonder if they have anything in mind for Athas...

Im sorry, but all this sounds like they are trying to get rid of the OGL.
I guess if it goes that route, we can expect another debacle like what TSR did. Taking down websites and threatening anyone who even stares too long at their "Copyrighted Material"

There have been long time rumors that the inevitable 4.0 version of the game would not be OGL.

Another version... blah... they'll not be getting anymore money from me. My own gaming group play's 1E. and 3.5 and we don't plan on buying even more books. Between the lot of us (with 2 of us owning the majority of the books) we easily have a collection of 100+ books, box sets, and adventures. To much space being taken up already at the gaming table since we never decide wich we are doing usually until our gaming night.

Well then I think the best we can all do is not buy crap like "Demonweb Pits" and "Lich Queen", or a new revision. Vote with your bank account.

Didn't they do this to Ravenloft as well? They've also done it to Dragon/Dungeon.

Maybe Hasbro is thinking of selling D&D and needs all the licences back to avoid legal loopholes further down the line.

With Ravenloft they had a site similar to Athas.org at one point, then they passed the liscense off to White Wolf for a few years. When time came to renew the Ravenloft liscense I believe it was White Wolf, not WotC, that said "No Thanks" because they wanted to concentrate on their in house products.

With Dragon/Dungeon magazines I came across a post by one of the former D&D Editors/Writers, I 'think' it was Monte Cook. He said something to the effect that back when Piazo started doing really well with the mag's that WotC wanted to yank and cancel the mags then because it was doing so well they couldn't compete.

Now with the Dragonlance lisence, I believe that they are in fact reclaiming it to start things up again. Were as Ravenloft has been left to rot and Dungeon/Dragon mags were taken back to cancel them.

It was the Kargatane´s website. The people at the Kargatane were among the writer´s of WW´s RL books, but they decided to quit for divergence of ideas concerning the direction of the setting.

All sugests that it was White Wolf that refused to renew the license, but they never said anything about that (what is making people thinking if it was REALLY WW that took this decision).

It was a great loss the fate of the magazines and of the Dragonlance setting.

Fortunatelly Dark Sun is still in good hands with athas.org.

I'll have to go digging for it again, but there was a post over on the WW Site saying that they had decided to pass on renewing the liscense with WotC and so by default WotC regained the liscense.

I remember...and I agree that in RL´s case WOTC had nothing to do with the wending of the license.

But now with so many licenses being taken back people starts to create theories...
