Hello people of Krynn! Or what ever world you hale from. I became ingrossed with the Dragonlance series after I had read Dragons of Krynn, a collection of short stories. The second book I read was titled "The Doom Brigade, Kang's Regiment volume 1. An excellent book, I was rooting for the draconians. They reminded me of the guys I served with in my military days. :fight!: After reading those I decided that I just have to get all the books. Now I have "Dragons of Autumn Twilight". The clerk at the book store told me that it is the first book of the Krynn novels. I can't find any mention of it in the book, but from what I've read, it sounds to me like its not. It seems to me that the Krynn stories should go back farther. Am I right to think, that I am not reading the first book? If not, could someone tell me what the title of the first book is? If I am reading the first book, what is the order of succision for the Krynn novels?

Welcome. DOAT was the first Dragonlance book written. Subsequent novels have dealt with Ansalon's past.

Welcome Briandraco. Good to have you among us.;)

I think that the earliest you could go would probably be the Elven Nations Trilogy, wouldn't it?

But anyway, as Trey says, Dragons of Autumn Twilight was the first DragonLance novel written, and it is also a good place to start. Or you could start with The Soulforge, but personally, it's fun to read The Raistlin Chronicles after you read The Second Generation. Here's a list of books you should read:

The Raistlin Chronicles
The Soulforge
Brothers in Arms

Chronicles
Dragons of Autumn Twilight
Dragons of Winter Night
Dragons of Spring Dawning

Lost Chronicles
Dragons of the Dwarven Depths
Dragons of the Highlord Skies (out June 2007)
Dragons of the Hourglass Mage (out June 2008)

(you don't have to read Lost Chronicles yet, it just details the parts that were left out in Chronicles, so you can go straight to Legends if you like)

Legends
Time of the Twins
War of the Twins
Test of the Twins

The Second Generation

(like I said, it's also fun to read The Raistlin Chronicles at this point, because it doesn't reveal any big secrets ahead of time)

Dragons of Summer Flame

The War of Souls
Dragons of a Fallen Sun
Dragons of a Lost Star
Dragons of a Vanished Moon

The Dark Disciple
Amber and Ashes
Amber and Iron
Amber and Blood (out at some point in the future)

(I have not read the Dark Disciple yet, but I hear it's good)

All these books are written By Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, who, in my opinion, are the best at DragonLance.

First off, welcome. (So there trey, I remembered my manners :D ). According to the chronological chart at the DL Nexus (Official fan site for Dragonlance) the first book in the timeline is "The Dragons." This book however covers more time than most book trilogies combined as it starts with the first generatin of Krynn dragons and finishes during the time of the War of the Lance (Dragons of Autumn Twillight.)

But yes Briandraco, the first series written (and considered the first of the series to read) is the Chronicles series, starting with Dragons of Autmn Twillight.

I myself read "The War of the Lance" anthology book first, which told stories of characters during the time of the Chronicles, which of course got me interested in the series.

You know it! Just so you know, I just recently got over a geas. It's a long story. *sniff* You don't want to know. It's traumatizing.

I noticed you changed your avatar back Trey.

Well since I established that I was the Head of the Black Robes I felt it was more appropriate. :D
