how old would you say she was at the start of the PP? i was thinking 40ish--remember she's half elven.

was her mother a slave? i remember that her father was an elf that ran off.

was her mother from tyr?

what happened to her mom?

Sadira's mother, Barakah, supported herself by selling illegal spell components, but was captured and sold into slavery, shortly after falling in love with the elf Faenaeyon. During the raid in which Barakah was captured, Faenaeyon escaped, leaving Barakah to give birth to their half-elven child. Barakah remained a slave until her death. It can only be assumed that she was Tyrian. Sadira's age is never specifically given, but piecing small clues together (from the Verdant Passage), it can be reasoned that she's in her early 20's (at least 21, but very likely at least a few years older).

Half-Elves don't live much longer than humans in DS. I don't remember exactly what the ages are in the officail rules, but I think even elves only live to be about a 120-140 years old at most.

Dwarves are the longest lived race in the setting at something like 200-250.

Starting age for a 2e half-elf was 15+2d4=17-23 years. In 3.5e a wizard half-elf's starting age is 15+3d6=18-33. Assuming Sadira is based on an actual starting character (which isn't necessarily true since its a novel, not a game), an age in her early to mid 20s is reasonable, while 40 years is much too old.

Well, considering that Sadira casts Evard's Black Tenticle, a 4th level spell, in her escape from the Break (shortly into the Verdant Passage - Bk 1 of the Prism Pentad), I'd say she's certainly not a starting level character. By this account, she's, at the very least, 7th level

Of couse she also seems to have only damage dealing, trapping, and a couple of movement related spells. She also for some reason can cast spells that are too powerful for her to normally cast by defiling.

I wouldn't assume that she is written in a way that conforms to the rules.

I agree with Ruhl on this one.
Some artistic licence has been taken with her ability to use magic in order to enable the flow of the story.

Why? It only takes a little research and re-working of storylines to get things to line up.
I did it when I made the outline for a full campaign setting based on the original Final Fantasy game. The whole Elf Prince being asleep until he got "Herb" was a trick and a half to work out in game terms.
(ended up going with the Feeblemind spell, which made the villain for that part of the game much more powerful than he was originally intended, and the Heal spell to fix it, courtesy of Matoya the witch who, coincidentally became one of the more powerful characters in the game)
